I think I've (kind of not on purpose) successfully fused Mega Man music with Castlevania music. I didn't really realise that until I was halfway through with the tune, but it kinda does have a lot of the usual elements of both series' music. Also, I used the Akumajou Densetsu DPCM samples.

<MOOT>

EDIT: It just made sense to change the title, even though this is not much of a megalomaniacal tune, lol

This sounds a lot more like a concept of "what if they had gotten Tim Follin to make a Castlevania song and forced him to use DPCM?" Still pretty good even if I don't hear the Mega Man too much.

I hear none of the comparisons you made, but the song remains awesome.

I wholeheartedly agree with Rushjet on this one. It's a kick ass song, but the arps, 3xx slides and general groove are all very reminiscent of Follin's work. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you, Follin kicks ass. I just don't hear the Mega Man in this, except for maybe the very last few notes in the squares before the loop.

Ok, ok, ok....that's the last time I'll make hasty comparisons to existing works. My intention wasn't to mimic either of those series' musical styles - just that's the way it hit my ears as I was listening back to it upon finishing it, and deciding on a title. This one kinda wrote itself.

Glad you guys dig the tune, anyway...the Follin comparison is flattering. Tim's work is still my benchmark for 2A03 greatness.
One day hopefully I'll figure out how to successfully pull off those fat tri+noise drums like he did. A friend gave me a very accurate .ftm of Silver Surfer that he made...I just need to study that thing I guess.

So, um...forget what you heard about this being similar to any Castlevania or Mega Man tunes. Guess I was hearing something that no one else did! How presumptious of me!

Great composition! I like the part at frame 05 a lot!

My only nitpick would be that I highly dislike the switching on instrument 0A. It sounds kind of sloppy/generic.

That said, the composition is, once again, fantastic. Keep at it, I can still hardly believe you are doing chipmusic!

Thanks a lot Mex. The part at frame 05 is what gave me the Mega Man feeling...kind of reminded me of the bridge in Chill Man's theme.

The janky duty cycle loop on instrument 0A...I went back and forth on that a lot, and finally just decided to leave it alone. I do agree with you though, it's not the best. I tweaked it a little in the attached .ftm (note the title change :p)

I can hardly believe I'm doing chipmusic either, man. I always wanted to, but just assumed it was too complicated/involved to fool with. Now I'm kind of addicted to it

I wish I could do more than chip music. I really want to write with this SC-55, but have no idea what program to use or even how to get started. Think you could send me a PM here or on YouTube with some tips for a MIDI n00b?

I've had your song in my head all week at work and I felt I just had to play around with it. I hope this little tribute doesn't bother you. You inspired me lol.

Oh wow Fezuke!
Wow!
This has a nice Middle Eastern flair to it!
I think it's a nice companion piece.
There are like two places where there's some dissonance that I don't know if it's intentional...if I get time I'll point them out in a quick edit. If they were on purpose though, that's cool.

I'm not bothered at all. Flattered actually.

That & parts of it sound like the introduction to The Beatles' I Am The Walrus. :P
