I decided a while ago to try out milkytracker, as I figured I'd have a much easier time composing without the hardware limitations of the NES. after some time I eventually came up with a tune I was satisfied with, and after that was finished I wondered if I could try and replicate it on the nes w/VRC6.
I think both versions sound quite similar, but there are still many problems that were encountered e.g. the 2a03 and VRC6 cannot reach the lower octaves I used for bass in the original XM, or the fact that it is almost impossible to use my milkytracker drum instruments in the dpcm channel without them sounding like crap and nothing like the originals.
Nevertheless, I don't think it turned out too terrible...
Even if I was amazing at programming music in general (which I certainly am not, I've only been at it for a month or two), I still think a spot-on replication (minus the custom samples of course) would be pretty much impossible
