I want to create a thread where we all post the first tune we completed in FamiTracker, but I noticed that there aren't many people showing off their mad skillz here, and such a thing could be perceived as clutter when it's among more general discussions... so I'm thinking maybe we should have a forum section dedicated to that sort of thing. It seems only natural that we should show off our creations on the forum of the software that let us create it, right? What do you think?

Alright... but I think, since you started the thread, you should go first. Here's my first song, although revised many times, it still has the original structure, and the only thing I've really changed is the drums, in particular when I learned how to extract DPCM samples from existing NSF's and added the classic konami drums to the song.

If you're not comfortable showing off your work in this thread, there's always 2a03.org...

Not sure if this thread's quite the right place for it, but eh, what the heck.

I'm not 100% sure I'm 100% done with this, although I'm obviously close if I'm not. I'd prefer that this FTM/NSF not be spread around until I'm sure, but do whatever you want with it as long as you don't go around claiming you wrote it yourself.

(EDIT Sep. 28: fixed a wrong note - thanks Cheez! Also fixed the triplets at the end. Oh, and the above disclaimer no longer applies: I'm done with it.)

Hey kef, I think you have a few notes wrong in the bass at the beginning of the song. I always heard it as D C# C, but you have the first two off a bit. Other than that, the song sounds a lot like I remember it. Well, for NES, anyway.

Gah! You're right. Figures that one of the notes that I didn't bother checking turns out to be wrong. Thanks for the correction. I've replaced both attachments with the corrected version.

Oh well, at least it wasn't as bad a mistake as how most people misplay the intro to Eye of the Tiger. (I swear, EVERYONE gets that one horribly wrong.)

I should start so here. It's not much but it's pretty funny.

Well, it certainly lives up to its title, hehe.

Oh, I think I should mention before anybody gets too jealous of mine: although it is my first completed piece with FamiTracker (not quite my first piece -- I have another work in progress, but I may abandon it), I do have a considerable amount of experience with ModPlug Tracker, and have had prior experience making NES music with mck. So there isn't much to FamiTracker that's new to me.

My first impressions of FamiTracker: well, it's a great piece of software, of course, at least considering its stage of development. I did crash it a couple of times (by playing unloaded samples), but I didn't lose any real work. It's still a little bit of a pain to make NES music -- although only a fraction of the pain that mck causes -- but that's mostly due to the way the NES is. For example, management of volume proves to be problematic due to the fixed volume of the triangle channel and the relative weakness of the DPCM channel. Taken together they suggest the appropriate volume levels for the noise and square channels, which is usually not anywhere near maximum volume, robbing the composer of dynamic range. But I suppose problems such as these didn't keep people from making great music 20+ years ago; why should they today? (I do think it'd be nice if FamiTracker could figure out the volume level of a given pattern without having to execute a volume command during playback, though. But I understand that this would probably be tricky to program.)

I was going to make a Mute City cover myself, but never got around to it. I would suggest changing those first opening notes to something that plays an "echo", so that the notes seem to be playing twice as fast, it sounds a little empty now. Very nice work making that brass sound though!

Woah, the stuff in this thread is alot more advanced than my first FamiTracker song.

EDIT: Attached the files now. Thanks for the help, Dafydd ^^
(Igelkottarnas Marsch is my first Famitracker song)

Edit your post, and just below the message field, there's a checkbox that reads "attachment". Links are fine, too, of course.

Just thought I'd post a classic. I have two versions, the first doesn't use dpcm.

Nice, The Incredible Machine. :3

I notice nobody has commented on my actual proposal for a new forum section in a while, though. What do you guys think?

I have my stuffs here:
http://2a03.free.fr/?p=pub&dir=Kuhneghetz

Note:
They are most accurate with the following NSF players.
- foobar2000 with foo_gep plugin
- Winamp with NotSo Fatso plugin
- Winamp with Festalon
- Nestopia
- FCEultra
- Nintendulator

NSFlive, Nosefart, foo_nsf and players playing NSF's in NTSC only, will make my NSF:s sound weird.
