So I'm mostly interested in making Mega Man style tunes. Here is one I cooked up earlier. I was hoping someone with more experience might be able to advise me on how to make it quintessentially Megaman.
I haven't heard many megaman tunes (Gasp), but from a rhythm/drums perspective this is spot on. The chord progression is good, it definitely sounds like it could be a megaman tune.
My biggest complaint is the melody, a glaring defect I see is that you started the vibrato effect in frame 4, and I think you meant to end it in frame 5 and start it again. (400 to end vibrato) Otherwise it clashes with the chord progression.
Great work man, besides the vibrato thing I give this tune an 8 out of 10 on the catchy-ometer.
Thanks mate! I'm not at the computer at the minute but you are right about not ending the vibrato. I'm also going to up the tempo slightly and add a 4 beat intro.
All in all you did a good job on this. The only thing I can give advice about is your use of the 4xx command. When you put a 'Vibrato' command, you have to remember to put 400 when you want the effect to stop, or else the rest of your square will have vibrato on EVERY single note after the 4xx command. I made a little change to your song, and made my own 4xx commands to suit my ear.
LOL I didn't bother reading the other post which clearly states what I wrote. oh well........lol

Thanks dude, the little tweaks you made were cool, the very subtle stuff that makes a big difference is the main thing I need to work on in Famitracker.
Much better. I like when the main melody kicks in (frame 5). Catchy-ometer is at a 9 now.
There is always room for improvement, and if I had to find something negative about this tune it would be the clarity of the hi-hat in frame 1. The snare sound or some other more staccato sound should help this.
Even if I didn't know you were trying to emulate the megaman style I would still imagine Megaman while listening to this tune - good work!
Better than most Mega Man fan music, still not amazing though. Needs to be a lot longer, and I think you have some issues with effects on loop. Instrumentation could be a lot better as well.
Keep at it though!
