Hey all. I was just wondering whether there is going to be another Famicompo this year and if so, does anyone know when it is going to start/finish?

I've had a look around but haven't a lot about when it will be this year. I haven't entered it before so not entirely sure when it's going to take place.

Thanks,

Jon

I think it usually happens round the end of August, but correct me if I'm wrong.

I would enter but all my compositions suck, it would just get me laughed at.

Thanks jrlepage, I'll keep a look out for any other info that may come around but if it is around August time, that's cool. If anyone else could confirm this that would be great - just to make sure :].

I've only really done covers in Famitracker so wanted to try my own thing for once - have had a few ideas that I've tabbed on guitar etc and wanted to convert them to 8-bit to try and make a song/theme from it. Only been working with Famitracker for about a year and a half now.

@DoomMaster1994 I'm sure you wouldn't get laughed at for what you've created - at least you've actually made the effort to have a go! I know that what I create for it isn't going to be amazing but hopefully some people may enjoy what I make in the end! :]

Jon

Thanks, jonpon. Maybe I'll try. The first songs I composed on the AdLib sound card sounded pretty cool...

it has started anywhere between june and december. it'd be nice to actually have it announced earlier than it usually is.

They happen every 9-15 months, so the new one could happen anytime between today and Nov. The submission period of the last one was over 5 weeks, so I wouldn't worry about it unless you're really slow at composing.

@rushjet Yeah that would be quite handy since it will help me to decide when to start preparing - I've scoured the internet but found nothing so far about this years competition. I see what you mean about the starting dates - I've just realised what the numbers mean on the website. Starting and ending dates so gives you a rough idea as you said. I presume that it will just come up on the official famicompo website when the competition has started?

@cak Cool thanks for letting me know! It's reassuring that I'll have plenty of time to come up with something for it. Fantastic :]

The original FamiCompo (which was stopped in 2003):

The official FamiCompo Mini (it picks up where FamiCompo left off):

I had no idea that it used to run before 2003. Good to know it has been going for a while.

It didn't, did it? 2003 was the first and only 'plain' Famicompo that I know of. (I participated in it. I lost badly, but so did virtually everyone who wasn't the winner.)
