well... sort of.
it completely lacks any rhythm, and isn't even the whole song.
Don't be too harsh though as this is my first time using a tracker

Hey man, welcome! And your cover isn't too bad for the first time tracking. You got the notes down pretty well. It's very basic, but that's the best way to start tracking. What will also help you is looking at other peoples FTM's to learn more about how and when to use different effects. Keep tracking!

Well, the lead's notes aren't exactly as correct as the original. You should highlight the triangle & square channels & transpose the notes by 3 semitones. Other improvements can start from there.

Welcome to the forums!

What Fezuke said about effects is true. Other people's FTMs use effects to add... well, effects to their songs. I edited the first 64 rows of your file to give an example of such an application. The effect used is 1xx which is a pitch down effect. I also edited the triangle to make it sound a bit more... um, well, just listen.

Im_a_Track_Man: I like the edit, but you still have the incorrect key for the song.

I've corrected the song's key, extended it as accurately as I could, condensed instrument 02 into instrument 00 & left instrument 00 with blank volume & duty settings (all of which are done strictly with effects).

Check out the attachments.

And here's an NSF2FTM conversion of the edit.

Noteverything: as you can see, there are many ways of composing the same song. There are those who go for accuracy, those who just want to do their own style & those that try to do both. Knowing where you stand on this spectrum requires more practice (both in terms of using the tracker & in terms of your overall musical knowledge).

As for skills, don't worry about how we edit songs or how crazy they may appear; usually, the track's been edited for fun, as a suggested change in your method or as a way to teach you different techniques. Since you're a beginner, you shouldn't worry too much about trying to be the best; just try new things & try to learn from others at this point.

And as Bruce Lee once said, "The best help is self help." If you're just starting in music, you may have some difficulty with music theory & more effective use of the tracker (like volume & speed control). There are some things that we can teach here, but we can only go so far; the rest of the stuff you need to learn is up to you to teach yourself.

I remember it being in BbMajor. Meh.

And why'd you bring out the 900bpm track on the new person!

Also, NotEverything, I like the new harmonies you added as your own style. Using your own material can really do well to add to the harmonic flavor of the pre-existing melody.

I brought it to show that there are more ways of doing the same thing, but the easiest way is best for beginners.

As for the key of this song, it really depends on how you heard it being played (considering that it was originally released on record, where speed could be varied manually & where speed was uncontrollably varied through the electrical outlet's power, changing the key of the song). The most widely-circulated version of this song is played at a lower key, as distributed on a 7" record & played on a European record player (220-240 V AC 50 Hz, with a speed of 45 RPM).

wow.. amazing edits, I never thought you could get so much out of something as simple as what I did. And I do have some experience with musical theory, I just find the tracker interface so.. complicated. I'd get used to it with more practice, though.
I hope..

Don't worry; you'll eventually get used to the tracker. Just remember; there's a way of comparing the tracker's screen to normal music notation. It's just a matter of practice & experimentation (& you're on the right track in terms of your current level).

There's always the site's wiki & the program's help file, too. But you'll eventually catch some good comparisons (for example, you can compare a frame in FamiTracker with a measure in standard music notation).
