The z effect is cool.
It can make a little sound and add to the drum beat with it its tinny little 'pops'. You can time them as such that they are a good thing rather than bad or you can have Z-00 meet Z-57 at such a gradient that it will not pop (audibly)when it would sound bad. THIS is because the greater the difference between the last value for _Z_(DPCM's delta counter) and the new value, the louder the popping sound will be. In other words it has volume!
I can use it to make a silly little rhythm with out even one instrument :) but fami can not create a nsf file with out adding at least one instrument (it is a "bug" that so small that I don't know if I would even call it that. After all other than fiddling with the Z channel I don't know of any other way of even making sound with out an instrument and the only reason a person would make a track with just Z is because they could :D At any rate with an instrument added it exports just fine and plays correct.

frame 7-9 (witch must be skipped to) show triangle fading in and out with out audible clicks (but an instrument must be added first).
Any way but the point is I want more! :)
I can think of at least 2 more effects that would be useful.
------------------------------------------------------------
1.) Qxy where x is an intensity (between 0 and 0,10,20,30,40,50,60,70 or 7f and 0,f,1f,2f,3f,4f,5f,6f [0-8 being the one and 9-f being the other]) And y being frequency i.e. how fast the values are switched back and forth for that space of that Qxy. Sufficiently fast speeds unsurprisingly sound like a dull note (and I mean fast like speed of 1 and tempo 255 fast...).
I know this would be almost useless but havving 2,4,or 8 clicks on one line at a variable volume would be just one more tool in the tool box.
2.) ((and this one would be useful)) Kxy where x is starting value and y is end value in rounded off values of 0,8,10,18 and and so on and the effect would make many small value changes to the DPCM's delta counter so that it slides between the 2 values affecting the triangle volume but making as little sound in the chaning as is possible.
another way of having this be implemented might be making the note slide effect 3XX adjust Zxx values at XX speed until it is the new Zxx value. If that makes any sense...
If any of this is possible then some thing like the vibrato effect could be added to work on the triangle channel.
The last and most versicle way this thing might be edited, would be... for under some conditions the one of the fields of volume, arp, pitch bend or fast pitch bend be used to alter the DPCM's delta counter. The danger would be people accidentally turning this on and getting horrible noises and not knowing why.
I have not the foggiest how much effort this all will take and every one is looking forward to expansion chips most of all but it does seem possible to me and I thought I would be the first to suggest...
