The only reason I wouldn't want to see it in FT itself is that it would be an inordinate amount of code for this one feature (you need almost a whole NES emulator to play back NFSs, more or less). Most people don't look at the code, I suppose, but it's something I'm very glad is there.
Again though, not my call. If jsr would be happy with it, then he should go ahead.
If he doesn't want to do it, I'd consider taking a shot at it myself in a few weeks when I've got less on my plate.
Actually, you only need a 6502 emulator and some extra code (loading data into emulated memory, bankswitching logic) to 'play back' (getting register writes, but no actual sound) NSFs, so it is like 1-2 extra files in the source code.
While I did vote yes on this(external app.), I don't want to look like I'm being greedy. JSR has already used quite a bit of his time with most of the extra chips, not to mention Famitracker itself. And I'm already doing ok studying everything about NSFs using other methods.
(Hmm... Maybe I should've voted "No, I do not think this is a priority for now."...)

As for those who consider the feature useless, well I am flummoxed...
I guess I'm just cynical as to whether such a tool could be made that works well. If it can, I'd be all for it (if it wouldn't be a burden on actual FT development, which it probably would be).
It is a feature that seems a bit redundant if you have used NSFPlug which has a keyboard view w/slowdown control. It can get you almost anything you want to know about an NSF.
The nice thing about doing it in FamiTracker is taking time out of the equation altogether. No more having to seek over and over, etc. Also you can make fun edits, I suppose.
And he already established recently that this is more complicated than he initially thought.
I'm not sure what you mean.
Anyway the converter nowhere near ready, as I explained in the other thread, so I lot of time must be spent developing it. And some hardware features are not implemented in the tracker that was commonly used in earlier games so those won't be converted properly (unless these features are also added). And finally it will still look like the example, nothing better. If you are really interested in the techniques used in game NSFs then the only way is to learn 6502 hacking.
Well, the importer has been out for a few days now, as an external feature (actually a modified FamiTracker 0.3.6). I guess we don't need this poll anymore.
Further NSF import discussion is welcome in this thread. Head over to this one for more info on the importer itself.
