I was told it could be a good idea to post about this project here as well, although it is related to a rival company and her consoles.

VGM Music Maker is a crosstracker for Windows that allows to create music for Sega Genesis/Mega Drive with full sound capabilites support, including FM, PSG and DAC. You can also use it to make Master System and Game Gear music. Tracker exports VGM files that could be played with a VGM player or plugin, there are players for actual consoles as well.

Please note that filename changes with every version, so if you want to repost, link this page instead, VGM MM is at the top of the page.

Shiru, you've made a whole bunch of really useful stuff. This is awesome!

(I've also been playing with NESst, Famitone, the TFM tracker, but I haven't finished anything worth sharing with them yet.)

So I'm guessing PCM samples aren't supported yet? Still really badass though.

I just wonder, how it was possible to get the idea that PCM is not supported yet, if it is explicitly said that it is supported in the first post, said in the docs too, its support is easily visible in the editor interface, and samples actually plays in the test module as well?

I was just wondering since you didn't mention it above. I didn't even download it yet =\

Oh come on Shiru, not everyone knows what those abbreviations mean! I for one wouldn't have guessed DAC meant samples. :p

Yeah, I'm sorry but I had no clue what DAC is. My technical knowledge is limited.

I had started my bug reports via PM but since this thread exists I might as well do it here so that other people don't submit the same bugs over and over.

-In the instrument tab, there's five buttons to choose the test mode (Fp, Fm, Pt, Pn, Pp). By default Fp (FM Polyphonic) is selected, but unless you click another mode and click Fp again, the instrument will play in Pp mode.
-Periodic noise is out of tune compared to the rest of the channels. It didn't happen in MOD2PSG2 so I'm guessing it's something that could be fixed (or tweaked incase it's intended behaviour).

EDIT: Here's an odd one... o_O

-When the program is launched by opening a VGE file, the Help menu doesn't give me the "Show help" option. That option is only there if I launch the program by double-clicking the shortcut (or the EXE itself).

That one was reported, so I have it fixed in WIP version.

Very nice. Just one question though, how do you use samples?
Sxx - Play a PCM sample

This effect starts a PCM sample with number xx, loaded into sample list in the Samples window. You can use the effect on any channel, but the sample always plays on FM6, turning off FM sound on this channel while the sample plays. No effects take effect on a channel while it plays a sample, other than stereo pan. Volume column does not work for samples as well.
Okay I made some simple thing. Man, FM synth sure is a beast to work with.
Imo the tracker is great, but it lacks simplicity. Some things like selecting octave, pattern etc could have a shortcut key if it doesn't already. Also when you're messing in the pattern editor, it seems really fickle and won't let you put notes down and such until you do so when it wants, so you gotta like stop for a second or it won't register a note. Also, my biggest issue so far is how stupidly awkward it is to add a new pattern in the editor. Like I honestly just stumbled upon it by accident by clicking "step" and "pattern" then right clicking the order list to add another thing. I don't even get it. Maybe I'm an idiot. Oh wait...
