I made an exact reproduction of the music from the japanese famicom game, "Takeshi's Challenge" (Takeshi no Chousenjou in Japanese).

Attached is the file.

If you want to test to see if this really is exactly the same (which it is) play this game on an emulator or watch the youtube video of it.

The way I made this was by playing the instrument tracks individually at half speed in an emulator, and then just playing by ear. I compared the wave of this song to a recording of the emulator's output, and eventually got it perfect.

What do you think?

P.S. Also notice that it is not a tiny loop, but there is actualy a variation after 4 repeats.

I could imagine more interesting music to do this with. Anything from the megaman games, for example There's another interesting way to do what you're doing - use nsf2midi and look at the control changes in the output MIDI. Most of the pitch, volume and other controls are visible in the MIDI (if you have a MIDI editor like Cakewalk or Cubase or something) even if the MIDI doesn't often sound at all like the original NSF. Just a tip.

I once converted all of the music in MegaMan 1-3 (GameBoy) into MIDI. There's no gbs2midi, afaik, so I did it using the same technique you just did. If you want to go from NSF to FTM, however, using nsf2midi to reveal the controls for you can be helpful.

yes this sounds totally accurate. the only thing that instrigues me is the -1 cent in the instrument editor/pitch bend. I have to ask, have you actually heard this in an original tune? maybe by layering your reproduction with the original? I'm just curious.

oh and btw. I think it's an interesting composition. I would never come up with such thing, the combination of those three sequences is really unique.

Sorry for the late reply.

I did the -1 cent because on the real famicom (I actually own the cartridge) it sounds exactly like this. I also used an emulator to listen to it, and when I layered them together it was the same pitch.
