I'm thinking of doing the whole Suite Bergamesque. I've started with the Passepied.

I was kind of hoping to find a use for the noise channel somewhere, but it never seemed appropriate. I'll probably use it for cheesy ocean noises or something when I get to Clair de Lune.

Edit: Now with the Prelude, and minor edits to Passepied.

Edit: Now with the Menuet. One more to go!

Edit: That's all.

Edit: I've taken them down for now; they're going to be part of a larger project in a little while, so I'd rather not have then just hanging around on a public forum for the time being. Until they're back, if you really want to hear them, e-mail me.

Edit: They're back up, and the album is out. See: [url=http://famitracker.shoodot.net/forum/posts.php?id=2860]http://famitracker.shoodot.net/forum/posts.php?id=2860

I wanna suggest going for Nicetas styled Tri control with those Saw DPCM he uses.
But I'm not too sure how well that will go with postimpressionism since it's not as loud as baroque and the DPCM might be too audible. But I'd still say give it a try so that you can give more expression to your tri.

That or some Zxx control. Or maybe be the first one to explore using both techniques together!

[edit:]
Oh, and I like it ^_^

I fiddled with Zxx for a while, but I couldn't stand the popping. Eventually I decided to just let the triangle be, but I'll probably do some cheating when I mix this down later.

Awesome! I really like how you created your own instruments instead of going for a boring piano-like instrument throughout the whole piece, like I did in my Chopin cover a few years ago. Very good!

By the way, there's a slight typo in the file info, it says "Passapied" instead of "Passepied". :p

Whoops, thanks for pointing that out.

On a related note, can anyone think of any chiptune classical albums, or arrangements of larger works? I've seen a few tunes here and there, but the only larger work of this kind I can think of is [url=http://www.pokipoki.org/dsa/index.php?Famicom%20de%20Bach]Brezza's MML bach transcriptions.

Then I guess there's the old synthesizer classics, Wendy Carlos, Isao Tomita, etc. (Tomita did a [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NOAr9mqsYFA]version of Passepied too, actually...) Maybe they count too.

Edit: Wooooooah, this was already done in [url=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_sBwJucegU]Castlevania II for Gameboy!

Great dynamics! I especially like the transition from the echoy stuff to the high pitched melody on frame 12.

I can't think of any larger works either, but if you dig through the nsf-archives every other game tune from 1985-1987 is a lazy transcipt of a Bach or Vivaldi piece with squares blasting at full volume.

Thanks.

Though... that game also had 23 other tracks. My version probably has at least 10x the data in it.

Okay, the Prelude is done (see first post). Two more to go.

UH OH FRAME 08 VIBRATO ON NOTE A-3 OH GOD THE PHASE RESET BUG

Protip: use P82 when using vibrato on A-3 and other such problematic notes. Most of the time the pitch difference is unnoticeable because of the vibrato, and it averts the bug completely.

Other than that, love it! Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. B)

Apparently I didn't say goddamn.

More greatness.

There's gotta be a ton of different ways you can interpret the songs. The first place I heard Claire de Lune was on a MIDI and imo it's the best version I've heard. Hope you're able to add your nice 2A03 touch to these classics.

Alright, now that most of the bugs seem to be worked out of the NSF import, I had time to finish Clair de Lune. The ocean sound is kind of a placeholder for now, but it's close enough to what I think the final effect will be. The triangle is a bit of a pain with the pops and the volume... I'll probably do a lot of editing to it when I mix this together later.

Why would you not bump this?
[edit:] ah, taking time to write stuff out. Took me at least 9 minutes according to posting times :\

Fine work with the noise.
Love the trills on the first 2 frames.
Not too crazy about your choice of duty cycles+ effects at the dynamic change halfway into frame 04
From frame 07 and onwards everything sounds nice. Maybe a longer fermata at the end o' this frame, but that's according to my interpretations.
But glad to have all 4 movements now. (still affectionate towards Passepied I am)

[edit2:]
As far as tri pops, I'm tellin ya, Nicetas' saw DPCM will really help with phrasing. My current project is covering some Ravel and it's extremely helpful to have that dynamic distinction in the tri.
