I guess this is somewhat related and you guys might want to check it out. I released the demo of my homebrew NES platformer today. The music was written in FamiTracker by BlitzLunar (Dave on the forums) and converted and compressed for use with a custom music driver.
jsr, I'd like to thank you for all the hard work that you put into FamiTracker and also Gradualore whose custom exporter code made this possible.
Instant classic! This would've been a hit in the 1990's. The gameplay style and colourful palette reminds me of Hebereke and Gimmick!, both Sunsoft games.
Pleaaaaaase finish this project! :D
How much of the soundtrack is done so far? Will we eventually be able to see the FTM source file?
Also, I'd like to say I'm really impressed by how well it hangs together. When playing it I don't really notice any dirty edges, palette tile problems, etc. that you even see in most pro NES games. Really great work! The attention to detail shows.
Getting that jetpack was so hard. Thank goodness for savestates. Also had some very nice puzzling challenges getting all the treasure chests (and the big bat!)
And I love the whole resetting when it feels like the 4th wall is broken when the jetpack is acquired. I hope the jetpack adventure is just as challenging.
The music is very well done, the theme behind both the music & the game play matches perfectly & the coding behind the sprites is very advanced when compared even to some original NES games.
And let's not forget how original the story line is; the hero Roast of Beef pairs up with Sir Loin in some unknown year of the 22nd century to beat some exploding bats with a glove on a spring.
Just the thing to get people hooked.

i am so amazed with the reactions everywhere. i cannot believe how quickly it has spread, and how overwhelmingly positive the comments about it are.
just to answer this publically as well:
How much of the soundtrack is done so far? Will we eventually be able to see the FTM source file?
all the music that's in the game is what I've done so far ~ 9 songs, all of which are subject to change (but probably won't change much.) as a ratio of all the music that will be written, it's probably less than half. there'll be at least four levels, each with their own songs, introduction music, credits music, a final boss song, and i think there'll be shops in the final game so those will have a song too and that's just the stuff that's known at this point, there may be others where necessary.
as for releasing an FTM, i'm uneasy about it. there'll be a soundtrack release when it's all complete, as an NSF, as well as MP3/FLAC, so I'll decide at that point whether to release an FTM as well. for the moment, the only song I've released publically is Level 1 on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0UsxQdJJki8 ~ the rest can wait
I like the game, though I haven't played the demo myself. And the music is spot-on. Great stuff.
Dave, you mentioned how fast this spread; I was surprised to find this in my Google Reader today.
