Not sure if this is a bug, but when I tried running Famitracker on a 233mhz MMX running Windows 98, the sound didn't initialize. I know it's because it doesn't have DirectX, but isn't there any way to run it with an alternative sound output?
Is it on a TECRA 550CDT laptop? I have the same specs as you! And yes I have the same problem sometimes... but try this, I think this is what have fixed this problem: lower the sampling rate, then close. Re-open FT and it should initialise.
Right now there's only DirectX because I believe it gives the lowest latency. I haven't looked at all on windows wave routines, but if it's easy then I might add it as an alternative.
Is there any particular reason you won't run DirectX on the computer?
Bah my laptop does have DirectX installed on it, but in this version, I don't know why but sometimes it doesn't initialise (when sampling rate is 44100 Hz)
Maybe the sound hardware is outdated and can't support that frequency. I used to have trouble with one of my old computers if a program had the sampling rate too high.
Jarthmander, it's not a laptop. It's just an old desktop computer, and I think it does have DirectX, because after messing with the settings it finally initialized. Yet, the tones (when rarely played) sound off-key, thus making actually chiptuning, impossible. Anyone knows any solution for it? I set the latency on many levels, and even when on 200ms, the program is still slow, probably there just isn't a way to play it. Interestingly, MadTracker ran on it pretty fine, but it freezes with VST plugins.
Can't you get a newer version of DirectX then? Run dxdiag (from Start -> Run, just type dxdiag in the box) and see what version you have.
Well, the computer in question is a MMX 233mhz (was a 486), with 64mb of RAM, I believe that's not fast enough to run FamiTracker. Plus, there's the monitor, only displays up to 640x480, making the pattern editor have only 1/3 of the screen, and it doesn't have internet (used a CD for FamiTracker). Therefore I believe that DirectX is not the only problem, I just wanted to know if there is how to run FamiTracker on that computer.
