You'll have guessed, this one doesn't involve FamiTracker for a change. I know, these are the FT forums, but what the heck. :p The mixing isn't all that great, nor are the DMC samples, but it's the best I could manage... Also N106 drums are hard. :(
Anyway, I suppose I'll jump the bandwagon and let people guess what it's from. I think it's pretty obvious, but oh well, lol It's Stage 4 BGM from Super Bomberman 2 (SNES).
This has inspired me to work on another track from that game. Can we make this a Super Bomberman 2 cover thread, or would you rather I post it in a new thread?
Brilliant! Some of the latter parts must have been a pain in the ass to transcribe!
Thanks!!
I'd say the hardest part to transcribe was the drums, because in the original SPC they're all over the place really. I had to listen to all drum channels simtaneously, then mentally single out specific drum instruments (kick, hi-q, hat and snare) and transcribe only what I needed for each specific channel as I was writing it.
Other than that, it went better than I thought it would really. It still took me 2 days to finish though...

Sorry for not replying earlier, your post had completely escaped my mind. :p
I'd rather we start a new thread for that purpose. Feel free to start it; I might contribute when the time comes. :)
This is freaking amazing!!
I love the sound of N106...I'd love to mess with it myself, but I hate working with MML...so freaking tedious. That's one reason I kinda quit writing SNES music.
I just wanted to comment on how amazing I think your cover is, jrlepage!

Oh, no - I usually composed everything in Cubase, quantized the crap out of it, made sure there were no overlaps/duplicate notes/out of range notes/etc, on 7 or 8 monophonic MIDI channels, then used MIDI2MML to turn that into a TXT file which I then formatted, set looping commands, etc...THEN inserted it into my ROM, listened, made notes, fixed it, wash, rinse, repeat...until yeah, same conclusion as you.
To me, it'd be the equivalent of making an entire song in FamiTracker without EVER hitting play, then making an NSF, then adding that into an NES ROM, listening, etc.
If there was a GUI-based way to listen as you go without having to actually render and insert, MML would be just a simple matter of learning all the commands.
I've been bugging some people over at SMW Central to make a tool like this for years...
Eh, I like 8-bit music better anyway
There are 4 or 5 dudes over at SMWC who are consummate pros at porting/composing in MML format, but despite their help, I just don't have the patience to navigate the sharp learning curve....or frustration level.

EDIT: yeah, addmusic sucks hind tit. You can do macros like that in it though - the l command works for specifying length. However, doing percussion or changing samples is like
@1c8 @2d16 e16 @1c8 @3e32 a16 r32 etc...
Because if you specify a new instrument, you have to then remind addmusic of the length of the next note. AND, that's not even considering you might have wanted to pan each instrument differently - that's also one note at a time as is volume. GRRRRR!

That's pretty awesome!
I might have to look into that, that is if FT doesn't do N106 support anytime soon....I haven't even begun to break into VRC7 territory, but I have a feeling it'll be easy, because I've been into FM synthesis for about 17 years. :O
Are you a member over at SMWC? It's a good community (but mostly comprised of young'ins). I hope you do get into some SMW stuff, there's a need for more original music in those hacks!
