Something I randomly decided to do because I always wanted to hear how this particular theme sounds with VRC7. Can you feel the POWAR!?
Edit: Actually, now that I think about it. I could use some good C&C. I'm getting the feeling of bad instrument choices and bad volumes overall. If you have something in mind, please let me know.
I felt the instruments where a little bit strange. Some worked fine, but the "epic keyboard" seemed very jarring at the start. The instruments didn't seem very solid, and seemed to sort of get drowned out in the background. The distortion guitar seems to be an octave too low, but I'm not listening to the original song so I'm not sure about that :P. It just sounds sort of odd on that octave.
Also not sure if this is just a personal thing; but I've never liked DCPM-only drums D: . It makes them sound to me like they're being played through a wall.
I should say though, I do like it once it gets into the main loop. It was interesting how you used the 2A03 for the main tune. I think with a couple instrument changes, it could sound really nice.
Thanks for the feedback. I've actually updated the FTM in the time no one has replied here, so I updated the initial post with the new FTM just now. I adjusted the volumes of all of the channels, changed the epic keyboard instrument to the distorted guitar in the main loop because listening to that section with the sharp start of the keyboard instrument along with the 2a03 sounded annoying. I still have the DPCM drums on their own because I have already tested added noise to support it and they just simply didn't sound right, plus it doesn't help at all that Famitracker lowers the overall volume when in VRC7 mode, not that it's a gripe or anything. Export it to an NSF and play it with VirtuaNES (or w/e player) and it gets really loud.
This way, to me it sounds alot better than before, but if you guys want to edit it I strongly recommend you do (if you want). I'd definately like to hear what instruments and personal edits you use.
Oh, and about the instruments getting shrouded behind others... I honestly have no clue how to deal with that. X3 has nothing but crappy ass instruments and a grungy soundtrack of terribleness, so I am confused how to make them all stand out with VRC7.

Oh right right, I forgot about that XD. It definitely has some really strange instrumentation in that game... I could have sworn some of the songs use that weird distortion guitar for every instrument...

I'm not sure if that was meant to be taken as a joke, but it sure made me laugh XD
It's probably because of how well I know the X series being why it made me laugh though =P
That's quite interesting. The original theme from the SNES is as it is in my original cover. Grunge and all hidden behind other instruments, yet still present to make the song sound complete, yet your method brings the grunge out a bit. It's good imo, but at the same time, it's awkward. I'll mess around with this again and see what I can do.
Edit: rainwarrior, I took what you showed me and pretty much just lowered the octave of FM channels 4 and 5 by 1. This way, they aren't unnoticable like my original post and they don't stand out too much like in your post. I'm quite comfortable with it like this. Now all that leaves is instrument changes, if needed.
Okay, I fooled around with the instruments. Rearranging and even creating new ones and this is the best that I could come up with. If I had to choose between this and the previous one though, it'd be the previous one probably. Freakin' Megagrunge X3, I tell ya.
