Frame 01 begs to be in 3/4, not in 7/4 like frame 00.

I know this is from a while ago, but I had to get it off my mind.

Isn't the Zxx effect capped at Z80? :p

Also for the sake of criticism, I think the instruments could use some working on, but overall the tune sounds great and fulfills its purpose as a graveyard track very well.

The progression in this is exactly the same as a lot of your other songs. That makes this really hard to see as a new song.

Also yes Z7F is the highest value you can go to.

Yeah, I see what you mean there. Like I said, I based it off of a previous song, so I think I will end up doing both something from gym's mod & InterrobangPie's (though not exactly as they have executed it).

As for my understanding of the Zxx effect, yes it's capped at Z7F; using Z80 is the same as using Z00 & using ZFF is the same as Z7F.

Either way, my alternating between Z00 & Z7F can also be done using Z00 & ZFF, Z80 & ZFF & lastly, Z80 & Z7F.

It's like the Vxx effect; V04 is exactly the same as V00, V01 is exactly the same as V05, etc.

I know; making a soundtrack with only one, blank instrument isn't quite as easy as one would expect (especially since I have a bad feeling I've reached a mind block).

If only I could muster up something better...

... And no; I don't draw inspiration from Donny Osmond. I hate Joseph & The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Bump.

Here's a new edit; I know it's still the same basic song (which Mex & even I dislike,) but it's still an experiment, as said in the original post.

I've expanded the tune & shifted the accidental signature. I feel it's some kind of an improvement, but I know there's much to be expanded & changed (even if it means a time signature change).

Well hey I never said I didn't like it, I think you are very talented. I just find it a but difficult to critique something so similar. I'll take a listen to your revised version once I am on a computer.

OMG OMG I think I know what it needs!

It needs one quiet frame where you just hear notes on beat 1 and 4. Would probably be good to lift the Zxx also so the Tri can be brought out.

Also I think the somewhat quietness of frame 05 should go on frame 03.

I hear you on that, man (but I know for sure that there's others more talented than me, including you). Mind you, I feel the song lacks the syncopation necessary to make it more unique (& you know how I always talk about syncopation).

I'm not liking that one extra frame in the end because of the 7/4 time signature... But if there were a time signature change at that point, it might not sound as odd to me as it currently does (you've got to admit; playing only beat 1 & 4 on a 7/4 time signature doesn't sound natural in terms of musical flow).

Then again, that's also my fault for using 7/4.

As for the Zxx command muting the triangle, I've used it for that exact purpose. But which is better to you guys; a soft or loud triangle accompaniment?

You know what; maybe this song needs the time signature to change from 7/4 to 4/4 & transition from this basic tune into something else (almost like a medley).

Sorry to double-post like this, but here's my new edit; I extended the song to contain a 3/4 time change. I have a bad feeling that it may have turned into ear-rape, so please tell me straight out if it's crap or whatever.

The 3/4 sounds really good. A great climax to the grim nature of the piece.

Is the OST for a hypothetical or actual game? 'Cause I really hope the player is intended to be in this area for extended periods of time since it's 4m55s long.

It's for a hypothetical game; I'll end up posting the full OST on my site with a download link, for use in any game design project (or just about any project/experiment).

Mind you, with the way I was composing these OSTs, I had in mind a Crystalis-like game that revolves around militaristic & horror themes (considering that my family came from a country that's been at war since the beginning of time & the fact that I'm well-versed in medieval Romanian/Greek/Arabic demonology).

One thing you'll notice in my two other OSTs is the fact that I usually never use a musical scale that carries a light, happy mood.
