-GameBoy waveform envelope. XPMCK's GameBoy mode (and I believe LSDJ too) has a feature where you can define an envelope that slides through a set of defined waveforms, kind of like a duty cycle envelopes but with GB waves instead, if you understand what I mean. So if you have a sawtooth as wave 0, a triangle as wave 1 and a 50% pulse as wave 2, the envelope { 0 1 2 } would play a sawtooth for a frame, then a triangle for the second frame, and finish with a 50% pulse.
Wow, I thought that this was impossible to do in the Game Boy, due to some minor output distortion that could be produced while changing rapidly the wave memory. If this is possible without any strange effect, this will be implemented for sure.
I'd also like to go ahead and suggest the AY-3-8910 as a new sound chip, in the distant future.
Yeah, but remember that DefleMask is a System tracker rather than a soundchip tracker, what system should I add if I choose the AY38910?, I think that a better option is to go with Atari 2600 or Commodore 64.
I'd go with the ZX Spectrum, it seems to be the most popular platform people write for when making .AY modules, judging from the demos that come with VortexTracker II.
Speaking of which, as of now, VTII seems to be the only Windows-compatible program that lets you write modules for the AY-3-8910/YM2419F, and that program hasn't been updated in several years now (and quite frankly it isn't very user-friendly :\), which is why I'm suggesting the inclusion of the AY-3-8910 here (possibly with dual-AY mode?). I don't think there exists any MacOS or Linux (or even DOS) tracker for that sound chip, but I haven't done any research so don't quote me on this...
C64 SID would also be a very welcome addition to the program, that goes without saying.
Now another question, there are audible differences between GI AY38910 and TI SN76489?.
I mean, I know that the TI has one more channel and that the AY has built in envelopes generators, but without comparing this point (because DefleMask has envelope generators for his soundchips), there are a major audible personality for the AY comparing it with the SN?.
How would you explain the difference between a system tracker and a soundchip tracker, by the way?

All three channels of the AY-3-8910 are capable of producing 50% squares (called 'tone' in GI parlance, apparently) and pseudo-random noise, and both can be used at the same time on the same channel.
In addition to that, the soundchip has a single envelope generator which any one of the three channels can call at any one time, and the envelope will stack above any playing tone and/or noise on that channel. You can't use envelopes on two channels at the same time though.
That's as much as I know, I'm afraid.
Functionally, to me (and I'm more of a musician than an electronics expert, to be honest), these two chips appear to be pretty different and rather difficult to compare to one another. There is definitely a significant enough difference between the two to warrant their coexisting on the same tracker, if that's what you're trying to determine. :p

Of course, if you want a "chip that doesn't exist", I'd recommend trying PXTONE. It might already do what you're proposing, depending on what you want.
