Hello guys! I'm Chuck (first post, so quick intro), I come from Pixeljam forums. They focus on retro-type games, so to contribute I got Famitracker earlier today to learn to show music ideas to some friends.

It's 3AM, and I've been messing around with this since noon, so I'm comfortable with the interface. However, I do have a tendency to be blind to what's wrong with the things I do; music is no exception.

So this is somewhere between a "HALP" topic and a "check this out!" topic, so I thought this category is appropriate. If not just give a heads up.

ANYWAYS, more to the point, I've come up with this (I'll also attach the FamiTracker file because you guys like those from the topics I've looked at.)

I know that there are ways to improve this, so does anyone feel up to giving some pointers? It'd be much obliged!

Thanks in advance C=

P.S. this isn't based on a cover or anything, so no need to wory about if this is accurate to anything. Go by the gut!

I kinda like the atmosphere you gave the tune. It's definitely more musical than some of the stuff that gets posted here. I think you need to work on it though.

Good effort though. How recently did you pick up FamiTracker?

Thanks!

So what do you have in mind to give it that *pop* that most composers strive for?

EDIT: I started yesterday at noon.

I like the feel here, but a word of warning: If you use volume slides (command A) at all, be prepared to manually set the volume. The last few notes in channel 2 aren't heard because the base volume is already at 0. Even though that instrument has a volume envelope, it won't matter because the volume level set in the channel (which is what Axx changes) predominates how loud the channel can get.

This is one of those tunes I appreciate more when I don't see the notes; it happens more with more "chiptune-y" songs.

Thanks for pointing that out, Icesoldier. I didn't notice that I had even added A[x,x] to that channel; I must have done so while looking for a sound that complimented the lead and getting distracted by something else xD

but still, there's something missing, something I can't put my finger on.

The mood is supposed to be based around terror, bravery, adventure and mystery, if that helps anybody pinpoint what is missing from this.

It's quite an interesting piece. A bit odd and quirky, but I could see this going somewhere. Extension plz.

I had some trouble learning to use the frame things.. in the process of learning how to use FT, I've completely changed this song xD

But, I hope it's still somewhat acceptable. And it's an extension!... of about 15 seconds... lol.

It's not *done*, it still needs flair, but I still don't know exactly what it needs.

EDIT: attaching the song always helps.

EDIT 2: Added a Youtube link.
