A simple little ditty I made recently. Kind of wanted to make something classic sounding -- not necessarily invoking any particular game, I guess just old platformers in general.

Wow, I like it! It does sound a lot like something I'd expect to find in an official NES game. You used some pretty cool techniques in there.

The 3XX and 4XX kind of ruins the "classic" style for me.

Not to mention the percussion is pretty advanced for a classic game. Most percussion is either linear fades set at different Hz, or 1 tick things.

The melody is pretty nice though, for a standalone song it is pretty nice.

Thanks guys. KuroBit: I don't really do much 2A03, but I wanted to try to get a full a sound as possible with the four channels used. So thanks!

And Mex, I suppose you're right. I haven't really done much looking into the nuts and bolts of classic NES soundtracks, but I'll take your word for it; I guess it's meant to merely suggest the days of old. I'm glad you thought the melody is solid though, it's pretty much all I care about.

Yeah, I should have mentioned that. All of the duty changes and pitch bends make it sounds less like the early NES games and more like ones that where made after the NES had existed for a while.

It sounds very professional though.

On an unrelated note, is FireFox affiliated with OfficeMax or something?
Now of course I'd rather have feedback on the actual musicality of the piece, but I'll take what I can get.
You've done a great job! There's a few places in there where I'd change a couple notes to make it sound better, but overall, you managed to make your piece sound more than all right! It reminds me of a forest level in a platformer game, for some reason.

Thanks jrlepage, I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's interesting that it makes you think of a forest level; I was sure that the rock-steady / dub elements would always conjure up an island setting, and I'm always fascinated when the same stimuli gets different reactions, be it music or other things. Thanks again!
