This is a cover I started some time ago in FamiTracker 0.3.5 beta, but only finished today in 0.3.6 final. I didn't use custom patches, though.

The DMC samples suck, but I can't be bothered to find/make better ones, so there. :p

Oh, and apologies in advance for not being zOMG 100% LE ACCURATE.

Enjoy.

Woawah, Knuckles Chaotix... this game had such a freaky atmosphere...

Very nice cover! Aww, but no custom instruments? This is actually one of the first songs that I've liked that doesn't use any custom instruments o_o, so I guess nice work XD.

Listening to the original, the noise channel is definitely much quieter in your version, but I'm guessing that's because of the volume correction in the newest version. The main instrument sounds identical to the one on the 32X o_o...

As for the cover, it sounds good. I've never played Knuckles Chaotix but it all sounds good.

I don't know the source material but ya gotta appreciate the volume control here. Too often VRC7 just hits clippage and is irritating. But this one's got the atmosphere.

Yeah, it took me quite some time to get it right. I didn't help that I started this project in 0.3.5 and finished in 0.3.6, the latter of which, as we know, brought changes to the level mixing, so I basically had to start over with the mixing.

I really did make a conscious effort to mix everything properly from day one, though. I wanted to make sure the tune sounded good in both FamiTracker as well as most NSF players. I know VirtuaNSF and NSFPlay render it properly. foobar2000 got the mixing right but there's a few quirks with the note release.

Holy shit... I- I'm sorry, but... Could I please give you a blowjob? It's the only way I can think of to repay you for this, even though I'm straight...

This is sounding really great!
I added a few little echos here and there. I think it made it sound a touch better (but I'm not familiar with the original).

On export to nsf, the lead echo might be a little louder than it should be. Sounds good playing it back in FT, though.

uh, no?

Try being constructive next time. Stuff like this I consider violate rule #2 of the forum.

@tadpole: 'fraid I'm using my phone at the moment. I'll give it a listen when I get home.

Just gave it a listen. Sounds great! The original definitely didn't have an echo, but it makes the whole thing sound much better!

You forgot a volume change in frame 14 though. :p
