Every time I start Famitracker, it opens about a dozen instances of Windows Installer before I actually get the tracker. Each of these installers stays open for about a minute before closing and letting the next one open. End result, it takes me ten minutes to open a .ftm.

FIX IT, JSR.

It sounds more like a problem with your copy of Windows Installer; if I were you, I'd do a screenshot of your Task Manager window (CTRL+ALT+DEL) & post it up here.

What OS are you using? I'm using Windows XP Pro SP3 with 1 GB of RAM & a 1.6 GHz CPU; I experience no problems with any copy of FamiTracker, which leads me to think it's another problem.

I have no idea why that happens. Probably a problem with your computer.

That's what I'm thinking; it's more or less a corrupted installation/update of Windows Installer. Either try updating Windows Installer through the Windows Update utility manually, or repair/reinstall Windows.

It just tells me that the package is not valid for my system. I'll try a system restore, but since Dell is stupid and doesn't ship install disks, that's about all I can do.

All you have to do is put out a request from Dell for Windows XP recovery disks & I'm sure they'll ship them to you. But try the system restore function first.

And you still didn't answer my question; WHAT VERSION OF WINDOWS ARE YOU USING?!

It's Vista SP1, but the system restore fixed the problem.

Glad to hear that.

Just remember that, even though a programmer takes pride in his design, not every problem that happens with the program is caused by it; if something like Windows Installer blurts out an error message when running FamiTracker, the problem would most likely be Windows Installer & not FamiTracker.

Troubleshoot your errors & try to deduce what you think is wrong, then ask for any possible fix if you're stumped; that how I'd report an bug.
