Hi all! Big fan of these 8-bit covers for a while now and recently I've been trying out Famitracker. Maybe some of you know me from youtube as XBladenoJutsu, but I kind of doubt it. Either way, I have a couple of MMX covers I've done. You all have inspired me to make my own covers and now that I am (even though technically I am still getting used to the tracker), I am really glad because now I have a cool new hobby. I have these uploaded to youtube already but I have revisions to some of them. Let me know what you think!
These sound pretty good, in fact I think I've heard your Bubble Crab one before. Storm Eagle could benefit by square 2 being a little louder (it's really hard to hear currently), and some vibrato.
Thanks, and yeah Danooct1 you heard Bubble Crab. Thanks again for that tutorial by the way. That really got me up to speed with the tracker. I'll mess around with Eagle's theme. I thought about adding vibrato before too, so I'll try it out.
Weird... Bubble Crab's theme sounds strangely similar to the 8-bit version I made nearly two years ago, lol.
Either way, good work on the song, as well as the other two. I've never heard X3's 16-bit ending song(finished the PS One version only). As Danooct1 said, try adding a bit more vibrato. Just make sure you don't go too heavy, though. That's a mistake I've made a few times before.
Creating Famicom/NES music is a cool hobby. Especially when studying the volume envelopes and different tricks that the original musicians used, and practice copying their style. Of course, you always want to be original, and have your own style. Being a clone can only get you so far.
Thanks for the Welcome! About Crab's theme, all I really did was copy the SNES version of the theme as accurately as I could. I had a lot of trouble with the drum rolls in the original, so I improvised, and eventually added DPCM Drum samples from MMX2. The ambiant intro to Crab's theme was my own idea though.
As for Eagleed, I went and added a bit of 482 and 484 vibrato in some places. It does add a bit more variety to his theme.
The X3 Ending theme is actually the part of the game where X stands on the cliff, reflecting on what happened and wondering about the future and whatnot. Not to confuse it with the staff roll/credits theme where he runs down the highway. That one is completely different in the PSX version
This version here is actually a MMC5 test, and I sure hope I did well with it.
For future covers, I hope to be able to make good covers without relying on the DPCM channel. Hopefully I can craft my own style!

copying other musicians' styles will help more than just copying old musicians' styles
Well, OK. I never said to just copy the old musicians styles, though, just to be clear. But whatever you do, don't count them out. You can learn a lot from them. Even Soyo Oka cited Koji Kondo as an inspiration to her. In addition, you don't even have to strictly follow video game musicians. In the end, it depends on what particular style you're after, and that varies with each person.
*By the way, I know Koji Kondo wasn't particularly an old musician at the time of Soyo Oka becoming an inhouse musician for Nintendo, but I'm just talking about the people here.
I made a couple changes to the Bubble Crab one. Not that it's not good, I just thought it would be better if the lead in the first few frames had a "whistly" sound to them.

That sounds pretty nice. This was my very first cover though so I guess I didn't really do alot to change it since I made it.
i covered storm eagle a couple years ago but it takes all kinds of "creative liberties"
your covers are good but like others have said, occasionally sound plain/harsh with no volume fades/vibrato.
I've heard this cover before. Very nice indeed. I'm not musically talented at all to be perfectly honest, but I will try to add a lot more to future covers to make them sound less plain. Thanks for the advice you all have given. I will try even harder to make my next cover something special.
