I got a game recently called LittleBigPlanet 2, and I've been trying to create authentic NES-sounding music in it with it's music sequencing tools. The instruments are unfortunately pre-made, and the waveforms are slightly different (or for nicetas_c, incredibly inaccurate) compared to a real NES. Also, the amount of notes you can place is fairly small, so it's impossible to do arpeggios (although notes can overlap, that's not helpful in this case :P). I'm still trying to make them as accurate as possible to a NES's hardware capabilities though and I would have never known how to do this without Famitracker.
So, I wanted to ask you all whether I'm correctly emulating (as best I can) the sound of a NES, or if I'm overlooking something important.
Also, if this is too... not related to Famitracker, then I apologize and you can lock this thread.
(Since I wasn't able to fit the last song, you can get it here: lbpnes_disco.ogg )
For one thing, I've noticed that all your songs sound a bit more chirpy than they would on a real NES or in FamiTracker. It's as though the square waveforms' volumes are somehow beating between F & 0 at a very rapid pace.

I'm not totally sure what you mean, but I've just noticed that each waveform has a very quick fadeout at the end even if a note is played right after. I'll upload the waveforms at different frequencies here:
(I didn't upload the Triangle waveform only because it is a true triangle waveform. The only problem is that at higher frequencies, it starts to turn into a Sine waveform. Also, the reason I included Saw is that it has no 12.5% duty square wave, so I sometimes have to use that if I'm covering a song with that duty...)
If you study them, you can see that they are very much not plain waveforms. Saw has that quick sine wave at the beginning of each jump, and the pulse wave looks very messy.
You play Little Big Planet 2? I think I remember seeing your name as the creator of that Pixel Platformer Adventure. Great level and song. Anyway, even though I'm not very experienced when it comes to knowledge of chiptune and 8-bit instruments, I can still tell that the 8-bit instruments had some problems with them that made them feel kind of awkward to use.
Yes; if you play the pulse & square samples, I'm very sure that you've noticed a bit of beating. To hear what I mean, try playing the samples in slow-motion; you should be able to hear the volume jump between a high & low value as long as the wave is played.

Hey yeah! I'm the one who made that, thanks.
Where did you get the sequencer for LBP?
It's inside the game. If you own the game, you just open the popit (menu) and go to music and at the bottom it will have a music object and quite a few instruments at the bottom (Almost all of them are synthesized instruments).
