This isn't my second attempt, but it IS my second file called "Vocal Test"... Anyway, I tried again to make vocals in FamiTracker.
Right now it only supports Japanese vowels (Since there are like 200 English vowel sounds...), so this has the numbers 0 through 10 in Japanese. I'm still missing quite a few sounds, but I made do for now until I can remember what else to add...
I also added some extra stuff near the end.
Sorry this description is horrible, but I'm very tired right now XD.
It... actually might be the robot voice from the Mac... I thought it sounded sort of familiar...
Anyway, I have a fairly decent way of taking Wav files and converting them into FDS instruments, so if you have some things you need to convert just ask me... The programs a little unstable though since I don't know much about wav files, so sometimes they will only work on certain files... I can probably fix that if I look into how they work a bit more...

Yeah, I have seen people doing that in Mini 7. Maybe we can see vocals by $4011 in Mini 8 or even vocals built with sine waves, who knows?
Otherwise vowels will sound strange due to low quality.
And:
K
G
S(SH)
Z(DZ)
T(CH)
D(TSZ)
N
H(F)
B
P
M
Y
R(L)
W
V
And then 'progress' is split into 'p/[no vowel]/r/o(u)/g/[no vowel]/r/e/ss' in English but 'p(u)/ro/g(u)/re/su' in Japanese. Hopefully my slight knowledge of Japanese is not wrong
I think you almost got the Japanese interpretation spot-on. The only problem is that the o would be an elongated vowel, the e would sound more like é & the u would sound more nasal (like in German or French).

Google says pu-ro-gu-re-su is right. You're right in saying the E is pronounced more like a short "ay", and the U's pronunciation is closer to French than it is to English.
