I've seen a lot of "guess which game is this song from" threads around and I decided to give this meme a little spin with a song that's not from any videogame (that I know of).

There's a hint included in the FTM, and I'll give you another one just for kicks: The author of this piece has had (a fragment from) another of his songs made famous while played through a sound chip. VERY famous.

Can you guess?

Argh, I know I've heard this before. It sounds great, but I just can't remember what it is...
I wonder if I can do a bit of research...

Do all the research you want, dude. Who knows, you might find awesome music on the way.

Another, very revealing hint: The original author's pen name initials are the same 2 letters on the FamiTracker logo! Yes, you're looking for a F.T.!

Francisco Tárrega must be the composer then... But what song could it be?

This will take me a while.

And yes; I like how you tried to simulate guitar strings being plucked, bit it's not quite the same in 8-bit music without using a rapid volume fade-out after every pluck.

It's Francisco Tárrega's Recuerdos De La Alhambra.

Wonderful song when played on guitar... If only there was some series of effects to make 8-bit music sound closer to that of a guitar.

I really gave it away, huh? You're amazing, Tech.

Also yeah... I tried the fastest fade-out possible but it popped quite nastily (something it only does in VRC6... though I didn't check if the NSF would have it), so I decided to make it a little bit subtler. Which in the end turned out sounding very vague. Well, at least I tried.

You really did give it away. You said the initials of the composer are FT (& there's only one composer I know with those initials). You also named your instrument as "guitar" (which got me trying to confirm the existence of a guitar composer with the initials FT). :P

The hard part was actually going through his repertoire (much of which, with other classical composers, I physically have on LP records, tape cassettes & in MP3 format).

I'd still say it's a better attempt than my La Catedral cover.

But have you tried something like this for a string pluck:

C-3 00 F A08 V02
--- -- - --- V01
--- -- - --- ---
--- -- - --- ---

Perhaps this could help a bit when you combine the other square channels. I'll need to try that someday.

Maybe I should try covering the beginning of Tárrega's Capricho Árabe as part of my latest OST (maybe I can use it as a closing credits theme).

EDIT: Never mind; I forgot about the 7xx effect to do a proper tremolo.
