I'm trying to track all of the "non-famicom" tracks of the indie game "Yume Nikki".
Can you guess these... 40 songs?
Wow, I just beat, well... Not the most technically amazing game in the world, but one that affected me to a degree I've never felt in a game before. Something about how everything was pulled off made it such an amazing experience, including the short music clips it used throughout the game. So... Can you guess what these 40 "songs" are from?
(I'll change the title once someone does, it shouldn't be too hard to guess.)
I'm not finished yet, but I got most of the "songs" in. (The music is simply listed as "Song_1" "Song_2" etc, so I wasn't sure of many of the names)
Oh wow, I guess I worded my first post wrong, these are all songs from Yume Nikki. I didn't mean they where all from seperate games, sorry about that :P. (Although it was very interesting to see the guesses everyone came up with).
yume nikki is great. i'm the same, while the game was technically not impressive and was short, basically just an amateur project, i found it moving and profound. not in the sense that i was seeing meaning where there was none (although that did happen and is what most people experience), just more the atmosphere it had, almsot unrivalled by any other game, certainly nothing else i've played. and the music, even though they're short loops, they're full of character, hypnotic, haunting, ethereal, scary... it's funny how much they sound like game boy camera songs now that you chipified them i guess it figures, since the game was inspired by earthbound, and hip tanaka composed for both earthbound and the game boy camera.
this is pretty good! not perfect but then i that's why i didn't tackle the non-chip songs... it seemed really difficult. one thing that stuck out - #23 isn't correct. the song is played at a different speed in the game to the source wav/mp3. hope you keep working on and improving this, as well as finding names. i can give you some:
#3 - I think this is used in the forest area... where there's the infinite tunnel with the odd tribal faces. (when you come out a different song plays and you're in a different area)
#4 - i think this is the dark room with the lamps in (accessible via the main hub)
#5 - toringen area
#6 - i don't think this is the train depot. i remember the train depot was just ambience. i think this was used on the spaceship? i don't remember.
#7 - this is used in the room with all those tiles you walk on which make different sounds.
#14 - this is some animation that plays when you look into one of the blocks in the stone head/weeds desert area.
#16 - toringen party
#18 - flute room in train depot (yeah i covered this one too.)
#19 - think this is in the area after you get eaten by the big red face
#20 - sewer
#21 - the other forest area with the guy dead in the road.
#22 - not sure about this either, but i think it's used when the girl with a bunch of arms is spinning around.
#23 - pink lake area with the huts
#24 - checkerboard area (one of my favourite themes in the game, shame it's missing the melody ._.)
#27 - poniko's house (lights off)
#28 - poniko's house (lights on)
#32 - when your in the NES area and the game freezes.
#33 - .. AGAIN not certain, but it might be the room with the pools of water.
#34 - home (correct)
#36 - this is the train depot
the ones without BGM in the filename are also used for music/ambience.
Hey thanks! Sorry the whole was sort of sloppy, but when I was posting it, I was basically just trying to finish the numbered songs before I went to sleep. I just did a quick check on all the easy to find songs and typed them in. I knew I wouldn't be able to get many of them correctly so it's mostly just trying to get it to sound similar as much as possible.
#23 isn't correct. the song is played at a different speed in the game to the source wav/mp3.
I couldn't figure out what you meant by this. I played them both on top of each other and they stayed fairly in sync for a while.
#33 - .. AGAIN not certain, but it might be the room with the pools of water.
It is, I probably should have called it something like that instead, but I was referring to the street lamps that are also in that area.
#34 - home (correct)
The only reason I called it "Home?" is because it's not actually your home :P.
#6 - i don't think this is the train depot. i remember the train depot was just ambience. i think this was used on the spaceship? i don't remember.

#36 - this is the train depot
Woops, I got that a bit wrong. #6 is actually the area where there is a giant sideways eye monster crying some kind of green goop (You get to this area after crashing the space ship). I think that it's standing next to something... I thought it was a train, but it was a while ago that I saw it.
#14 - this is some animation that plays when you look into one of the blocks in the stone head/weeds desert area.
Thanks... Now I gotta figure out which one is for chance event with the TV in you're room, and the other one that I forgot...
the ones without BGM in the filename are also used for music/ambience.
Yeah, I know. I just was trying to at least get all of the "BGM" files before I uploaded it here.
Thanks for the help! I'll try to get this finished. (Shouldn't be too hard given the length of each song :P)
Thanks... Now I gotta figure out which one is for chance event with the TV in you're room, and the other one that I forgot...
the TV one is KALIMBA.WAV
I couldn't figure out what you meant by this. I played them both on top of each other and they stayed fairly in sync for a while.
what i mean is, your cover is based off of listening to the mp3 in a media player, as opposed to being based off of the mp3 as it's used in game.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oB64Sp2LMks this is how it is in the game, it's about 40% slower compared to the actual speed of the mp3.
Oh no... I guess I'll need to make sure all my songs are playing at the right speed o_o... I noticed something like this with one of the other songs... Better fix that too...
RE: Yume Nikki - Non-Famicom Song CoverPosted: 2010-12-21 01:44
Oh, I forgot!
#24 - checkerboard area (one of my favourite themes in the game, shame it's missing the melody ._.)
What did you mean with this one? I think there must've been something I missed. I want to get them as accurate as possible.
there is a faint melody in the song but it's buried under the reverb and the delay of the arpeggio. here's my attempt to it (easier to just show you than try to explain.) FTM might not open since i'm using a beta.
EDIT: also if i remember correctly BGM014 plays at a different speed in the teleportation area (with lots of red squares.) that might not be the only other song that plays at a different speed either... it'd be best to (re)play the game or look things up on youtube.
but hey you're doing it in 2A03 unlike Blitz Lunar, so it's still unique.
