I decided it would be a very good idea to perform Cee Lo Green's hit single F**k You! at an open mic night at my local university with an 8-bit backing track. I haven't done this yet, but I just finished the track and I'd like to show it off here. It was made in 0.3.5 using the VRC6 expansion. My plan is to sing and accompany myself on the piano with this as additional backup, but I think it sounds pretty good even without the piano.

So, when you listen to this, imagine someone singing the melody. Feedback greatly welcome!

EDIT: I forgot to mention — and this may be plenty obvious — that this track has some fun little video game music references in it. See if you can find all nine!

Hey - I remember you from your Card Battle track, but I never realized you were from Bham! Good luck performing it!

Here are the only references that I found:
Final Fantasy harp music
SMB - 1up
Chrono Trigger - Secret of the Forest
Legend of Zelda - found a secret music
Legend of Zelda - resister your name

CC: Would be cool if you got the VGM references more authentic sounding, i.e. correct volume, duty settings, etc.

I certainly did think about going for optimal authenticity with the references, but because of the way that I structured things, I have to make some compromises. For instance, I had to put a few of them in the Triangle channel that weren't meant for it originally, and of course the Triangle channel has no volume or duty settings. Plus, the way that I made, for instance, the CONTINUE - SAVE - RETRY theme from Zelda (you were close with "resister your name" [sic]) sounds cool. I like it. I think it compliments the overall structure of the piece the way it flips back and forth between duty settings the way it does, and it sounds — and I admit this is a little silly sounding, particularly coming from a video game nerd like me — a bit more "video gamey" than the original version, which will add to its appeal in live performance. Surely you understand.

In short, I'm content with simply having pitch accuracy in these references.
