Guessed correctly by DalekSam(no surprise here, LOL), the song is Spring Yard Zone, from Sonic The Hedgehog(1991), composed by Masato Nakamura from Dreams Come True. Stated in the post below this one, I used an earlier BETA, so the instruments sound a little different if you use the most recent version of Famitracker.
It just came to my attention that because I've composed this VRC7 tune with an earlier BETA, it doesn't sound quite the same as when it's listened to in the most recent BETA. Some instruments will sound louder and carry longer than they're supposed to. Sorry!
Thanks! I try my best. This is actually a bit of practice for doing some of the Sonic Colors Gameland music renditions. I'm still on the fence, as to whether I should try to compose the songs in Famitracker, or whether I should use TFM Music Maker. I've already done some Sonic music with that.
Yeah, I add everything else in, after I use the tracker. Actually, I use FL Studio to sync everthing together, and save it as an mp3.
Although, someone is working on a Genesis Tracker, complete with PSG and DAC support, much like how Famitracker is with DPCM. The downside? It's really only in the alpha stage, and the first time I used it on my Windows 7 64-bit laptop, it messed things up so bad that I had to do a system restore. So, until the tracker is further along, I will contunue with previous methods.
I believe I mentioned it to Mex over AIM once, but you can work on an XM and convert it to Sonic 1's format with xm4smps. It's not the easiest tool in the world to use, but damn, does it give good results. That is, provided you feed it some instruments.
I'll gladly go over it in more detail if you need it.
xm4smps, like I said, isn't particularly easy to use at first, but if you've got a basic knowledge of trackers and the will to use some other inconvenient tools just to make music, it isn't too hard.
Basically, with an XM, you'll want:-
* No more than six channels dedicated for FM synthesis, however...
* If you're wanting sampled percussion, you will have to use five dedicated channels.
* You can have 3 PSG channels, where two or three can be used for square waves maximum, with 1 white noise channel suitable for hi-hats. The SMPS system cannot use 3 tone channels and 1 noise channel at once, contrary to popular belief.
Note that a single channel cannot use chords, and the PCM channel can only have one sample playing at once.
With this knowledge in mind, try and get as far as you can without help. Download a Sonic 1 disassembly, download xm4smps and have some voices ready to be loaded into the converter. If you're familiar with TFM, the preset instruments can be used along with your own custom ones.
FYI, you'll need to split the disassembly with a clean REV00 Sonic 1 rom labelled s1.bin, and go to the Music81 routine to replace the song. I'll assume you know how to do this, however! Good luck.
