i'd like to know if I have the right idea. some days I look at this and think it's a plain and forgettable piece of music while others I find it moody and convincing backing for any slow type of game, and since someone is relying on me to make zem a soundtrack for zeir classic jRPG-in-progress, I'm wondering if my material is really suitable at all. thanks for peekin'
It definitely works for any RPG. You have to remember, though; music in RPGs tend to reflect the scene in which they play in. This sounds like a good theme for some kind of a cave exploration level.
Also, the volume control you have for instrument 01 has no effect on the triangle channel (its only volume possibilities are 15 or 0).

Composition-wise, this is probably one of the best nsfs I've ever heard. I dig the unusual (augmented) chord/arp voicings, as well as the use of tempo to heighten the mood.
Instrument-wise it's pretty solid, except for the square bass sound which is a little jarring. I think if you softened the decay on that (or maybe just let the tri channel do the talking), it would sound somewhat better.
Definitely a haunted castle or icy cave type of song.
yep, thanks. i will probably be using separate files though since i wanna use a range of samples and because compiling to NSF isn't a requirement of ze game.
actually i'm having DPCM problems right now - the tom on which this song is partially build is real hissy and i don't know all zat much about sample-cleaning. please take a look.
take a look at this new one... i was trying to create a title theme in my own style and have it establish a rather weird piece of music ze player would probably encounter again and again in different arrangements. maybe it's too long? do tell me if it's just too much of a pain to listen to ;p
perhaps too much! don't want to lose the ZZZV sound. I can honestly say you're one of the few who can use arpeggios in an idiosyncratic and evocative way.
