Try to use as many instruments in your song as possible, and use THEM ALL.

You cannot use the following things:
the effect 0.
the effect 1.
the effect 2.
the effect 4.
the effect 7.
the effect q.
the effect r.
the effect i.
the effect h.
the volume channel.
the VRC7 expansion.
the speeds of 1 and 2.

You must:
use at least 0F instruments.
use every single instrument.
make it listen-to able.

EDIT: You also cannot use the effect 3, as requested by NC.
As an addition that I forgot, you cannot use the effect v.

EDIT AGAIN: I guess I'll give reason for someone to win. (based off of what Tech did)

1ST place: I find something really nice to do for you.

2ND place: Same as 1ST.

3RD place: An installation ISO for an operating system of your choice.

4TH place: I don't know yet what 4TH will get. That, I guess, will be a surprise.

EDIT: Will change 1ST and 2ND prizes as to not get arrested.

So, when you say that you're banning the use of pitch effects, does that include the use of pitch settings in each instrument? Because I'm assuming that you're competition is all about using no effects & pure instrument settings to control pitch & volume.

You can control pitch, but only in the instrument and with Pxx.

so basically the premise here is to write a song using no pattern-based controls (aside notes and stops) and doing it all in instruments instead. ie. the opposite of a one instrument contest, essentially.

You can use speed, pattern end, loop and song end effects.

In other words, you cannot use effects that directly control notes (such as hardware sweeps, vibratos, etc.,) as such effects must be done from within the individual instruments you set.

This may take me a while, personally; my only soundtrack that had anything close to 15 instruments was my crappy rendition of Clubbed To Death (it had 14 instruments, but it made use of the 4xx effect).

But I'll see what I can do.

There's no deadline yet, take as long as you want.

I haven't realized how fast I could do this thing.

In the course of 2 hours, I'm already at 25 frames & 12 instruments in use. This said, you can learn a bit from my technique (especially with the alternating duty cycles & volume control using nothing but Axx effects & the instruments' volume settings).

I just need to use 5 more instruments & I'll be able to submit my song.

EDIT: I've finished my song. 25 frames, 64 lines per frame, MMC5 expansion chip, the use of DPCM triangle samples & the exclusive use of instrument-based tricks with the Axx effect to control volume. Since the Axx effect wasn't banned & since I haven't made any use of the volume column, it's still a proper submission (unless the rules change).

So here it is; Requiem for a Journey (with FT 0.3.0 project file & NSF file). It's funny; how kinkinkijkin was the first to submit a track in my contest, while I'm the first to submit one in his.

Note: the NSF file doesn't play properly in either Nestopia or FlashNSF because they hate DPCM triangle samples. There may be a bunch of other players that hate it too, but it works on NSFLive & VirtuaNSF.

A little bump for a good cause.

Why isn't anyone taking up kinkinkijkin's challenge? I'd hate to win by default; I need a challenger here!

I won't set a deadline on this until someone else comes here, meaning noone can win by default.

Urk, I've already been beaten, but I'll upload mine anyway.

I had a surprisingly difficult time with this both because of the fact that I like to keep instruments to a minimum (Many of my songs only consist of one instrument), and I'm not very good at composing my own songs yet, but I tried anyway and here's the result. Sounds sort of eastern, mixed with... random notes clashing together :P. (Oh and you can probably tell, I spent a while figuring what name I should give to each instrument >_>...)

Also, I wonder why I ended up using the Triangle as the main instrument...

Anyway, come on people, we need more than 2 entries!

EDIT: Oh and I don't want any prizes, I was just doing it for fun.

Nice use of all them instruments, kuro. A whole 15! (hex count) And you and tech are tied. Plus, better use of the triangle than I would have done.

EDIT: The people will decide the winner, so I can join. Note: I won't get any prize if I get in a prized position.

Here's my song, Floutist's allure. Also, I couldn't think of a name, explaining the badly chosen name.

I'm surprised that KuroBit thought I beat him. Clearly, he beat me with the instrument settings & the general skill level he has here.

But sadly, I can't open kinkinkijkin's track.

Also, if you want to link to the contestants' submissions from your first post in the topic, right-click on the submission's link & select "Copy target location" or Copy link location."

Then, edit the first post of the topic & paste the link into it, like so:

(url=http://link.to.contestant/submission.ftm)contestant Name(/url)

Where you paste the copied link location in place of http://link.to.contestant/submission.ftm & where you replace the parentheses with square brackets.
