You did a pretty good job getting the notes right, but the instruments could use some work. Try DPCM for the timpani.
On an unrelated note, I think someone already has that avatar.
Good idea, I hadn't tried out the DPCM yet... I'm definitely not satisfied with my "timpani" sound there, especially since I can't give it different tones on the noise channel.
Still clueless about instruments, but I suppose practice makes perfect. xD
And yeah, this was the avatar closest at hand and I do enjoy my Mega Man.

I highly approve of this new avatar. lol thanks a bunch Tech, and thanks Xol for the timpani sample! I'm going to add that in right away.
EDIT: Here's the version updated with the timpani DPCM, but it seems... overwhelming? Also having issues getting it in tune, some of those new notes make me wince now lol. Added a bit of vibrato in some other places for a bit of polish, but it might be overdoing it.
Yet another edit: It also seems I can't export the .nsf with the DPCM included now... that won't do. It just causes FamiTracker to crash, any ideas?

I think it's because the compilation has reached a certain file size, which causes the crash.
I've noticed this in my own compositions, too; whenever I'd reach close to the 32 or 64 KB file size mark when compiling NSFs, the tracker will crash on me.
In any case, that timpani did the song some great justice. But, instead of a vibrato, why not try a Pxx effect? nicetas_c (more expert member of this forum) showed me once that using a P7F can help with pitch problems.

Will the Pxx effect work with a DCPM sample (that's where I've been having the pitch issues, just in the timpani)? I've fiddled around with it a bit but it doesn't seem to affect it. Of course it may just be a PEBKAC error since I've only been using this program for a couple days now lol. Other than the timpani I'm pretty happy with the pitch in general, the vibrato was for just that-- vibrato. I'm a violinist at heart, what can I say?

Okay, I guess this is going to be a learning experience here, but I'm not following you about "envelopes". I fail at music theory and do just about everything by ear, so if you could expound upon that a bit it'd help, please and thank you. :x

An envelope is simply a zone within one of your sound channels, where the notes are pretty much controlled almost exclusively through the use of an effect.
Example: if your square channel 1 has a song composed with one single instrument (at volume F,) I can use nothing but Axx effects to control volume during the course of the melody. The use of the Axx effect would make the notes in that sound channel controlled by a volume envelope.
Or, if I decided to make something horribly crappy, I could use nothing but exclusive vibrato effect control (using the 4xx effect). The notes would then be controlled by an effect envelope.
