Hi,

I just noticed that 0.3.5 no longer has sequence presets in the instrument editor. Was this intentional?

Thanks,

-Dave

Were there ever sequence presets?

0.3.0 had it. See attached screen shots. 0.3.5 no longer has the "Presets" button in the upper right.

It's not like many people use sequence presets.

But what you can do is open FamiTracker 0.3.0, run the sequence preset you want & copy the MML code in the text field (just below the sequence's bar graph). That way, you can paste it into FamiTracker 0.3.5 & even save it as a separate instrument file.

I just use my graphing calculator when I need something so specific. Anyway, it's a fair trade now that we have VRC7 and FDS.

Plus, presets were overused in the past. That's why you are not recommended to use volume 15 14 12 10 9 7 5 4 2 0, hi-pitch 0 8 | 11 and so on...

It's a bit of a moot point anyway; you can get a linear fade by right-clicking and dragging.

on a similar note, why isnt the bar there anymore that was on the left side of the sequence editor that let you set how many numbers there would be? for really long sequences it was nice cuz then you didnt have to click the + button a buncha times. sorry i know i'm really nitpickin here, but i just wasnt sure if there was any particular reason why it was removed? im i the only person missing that? lol

You mean the sequence select button? It's not needed since there's a number selection box that lets you choose which sequence you want anyways. You can just type a sequence number instead of pressing the + or - signs.

Nope; He means the 0.3.0. counterpart of this part from 0.3.5.:

Size: [-]0 [+] 0 ms

Now you only need to click the number box, drag the cursor upwards and you will get a long sequence.

Not to mention there really is no need for presets when you can use the right mouse button to taper volume levels in a "straight" line (my personal favorite ^__^ ).

On what grounds do you say this? Does this mean "I don't use them, so obviously nobody else does"? :P

I use them. Most of my instrument sounds are either straight presets or based on them.

What I would like to see, though, is not the return of the standard presets, but rather a quick envelope generator... just have it generate a linear or exponential fade out (or in) over N frames. That would be all the old functionality and more!

Nobody's criticized my work for using presets...

Sure, but I find it a bit annoying this way for some reason. It also doesn't handle exponential curves, you gotta eyeball it. This is a bit annoying when you basically know what sound you want, but you can't be bothered to copy and paste it and you don't want to make the curve by hand.

Now, I did NOT say that nobody uses presets; I only said that not many people use them as they're simplistic enough to replicate by heart.

Like I said, not that many people use them (in every module I've seen on the internet, only a small number of them used presets). But it it's needed, why not save the MML code from FamiTracker 0.3.0, copy it to the latest stable & save it as a separate instrument file?
