I'm moving all of my music over to this topic soon, no exceptions.

Right now, it's got a song I made for practicing my composition. I worked on this one all day, but only because I want to a drive-in movie last night. I actually could have pulled this out of my ass in an hour.

FINE PRINT: If posting here, must try to keep on topic.

Reason for my bad composing: I'm in 7th grade.

EDIT: The first claim in this post is now void.

Thanks for listening =) Much better. It sounds like background music for a bonus stage. As composition practice, you ought to keep working on this one. Maybe throw in some chord changes? I like the way it builds up. But then it builds back down right away. How about trying your hand at composing a memorable melody?

No. This is not a proper excuse for your bad composing.

However, I do see a few improvements here, if not some.

Really. I've never gone to a school that tought music other than banging pipes on your arms.

And, tadpole, thank you for the comment. Well appreciated. I will work on the song. Though, it DID start out on thoughts of playing Legend Of Zelda, A Link To The Past to get a cover straight.

I will upload the first save soon to show how much it progressed in 7 hours of work.

Nicetas_C is right: you could be in 7th grade and be brilliant at composing music.

Yeah I didn't either. The reason is lack of practice. That's about it, with practice you'll get better I'd actually recommend doing covers and working on technique (like volume changes, timbre changes, etc) to make is sound pretty, then apply what you know (in the future) by making original compositions.

Uploaded old file and edited new file. New file is loop added and break-down removed.

You know, at first, I was nervous to upload the file. Then I devised the idea of this topic, and I wasn't nervous anymore.

In the sawtooth channel, you left the 202 command on, so it is bending every note downward from that point on. It doesn't sound good. You ought to cancel that effect with the 200 command after you're done with the pitch slide.

(However, once the square channel comes in, doubling that note, it ends up sounding alright.)

The first one is the edited one. The second one is the first save.

EDIT: You know, I was expecting that someone would negatively criticize me about the duty cycling square by now. Does it really fit that well?

Ah, finally, something acceptable as a first piece.

- Good to see some use of effects and volumes (BXX, 2XX, volume crash on the noise channel in frame 1)

- Somewhat pleasant to listen to, the parts fit together and harmonize

- Use of VRC6 is always nice to see

Keep at it!

Thanks for the positives!

Uploaded new FTM. I need help smoothing the instant rebuild after the long honk, and I need help with the name. Freedom to edit, but don't remove "kinkinkijkin" from the first author feild. If you edited it, second author feild must contain your name.

EDIT: Not your real name, your forum name. Sorry if I confused anyone.

kinkinkijkin; this is absolutely awesome. I'm glad you heeded the constructive critiques from that last thread. Great use of effects & you've done very well at harmonizing the notes between different channels. The duty cycle alternation is much cleaner & actually fits decently in your song.

Even if you didn't go to a school that teaches music, you don't need any school to teach you about your own talents. All you need is to keep practicing & keep teaching yourself the different tricks of the trade.

You know, it's funny that I could do this. I usually just make the best instruments of most of this community.

I still need help with the smoothing. Can you beleive, though, that I did this in only 9 hours?

I can believe it; just because you haven't had prior experience, it doesn't mean you should underestimate yourself. How do you think the telephone was invented when nobody has ever thought of having live conversations with others over a long distance?

It's all to do with research & practice; you learn about the tools you can work with when you research, while you can perfect your work with practice. That's what makes music (& practically anything else that people do as hobbies) a talent.

You keep on talking in life lessons. I half expect you to show up behind me and say "You must practice to make music as epic as nicetas".
