This is my cover of the password screen from Dirty Harry (NES). From what I can tell, it sounds just like the game. I had to learn that sound I wanted by ear but it sounds pretty exact to me. Now, yes, I know, lots of people hate this game, and maybe I'm crazy or mental, or whatever you want to call me but I love this game's soundtrack, and that's not a lie, but I like Die Hard's music better. I always considered that game the Japanese equivalent to Dirty Harry. For example, Both games' first word start with DI and second word start with HAR. Coincidence? You decide, because I'm not sure! Agh!
I don't think the original composer spent too much time on the music. He was probably cranking out the songs as fast as possible. It's not that I dislike the music... it's just that the instruments and effects aren't 'polished', like in the games by Konami, Capcom, Nintendo, etc.
Sounds like you got that instrument spot on!

There were too composers: Steven Samler and Elliott Delman. Here's the reply I got from Delman when I asked if they wrote the music together or independently:
"It was Steve's gig and he brought me in, taught me the nuts and bolts of midi, scoring with midi, etc. We worked every which way--independently, collaboratively, and we'd often pass ideas back and forth, so the authoring line was blurred."
So maybe that's why, it sounds like at the time he didn't know much about sequencers. Steven Samler said they used Digital Performer for the music, and that program is still made today and it's one of the most professional sequencers. Actually I think it IS the most professional sequencer. I'll admit though, it seems like all the Japanese composers wrote better sounding music than the American composers. I guess that's because they knew more about the chip or something.

Reminds me of Action 52.
Nonetheless, this is how far you can get as of now.
