Hello all,
I am trying to recreate a voice from Dave Warhol's NES music. There are a few voices of his that I want but for now this is my main concern. I can't seem to get the sound and I think it's impossible to do in Famitracker but I'm not sure. The sound I want is where the note release note slides down 28 notes really fast. I tried arpeggio'ing it but it was too slow. I tried using Pitch but I don't know how to make it go down 28 notes. The sound starts at 9 and then slowly goes down to 0 at the note release. PLEASE help!
Thanks a lot!
-Nick

You know, I am usually confused with the term 'voice' you used and the term 'instrument' I used...

They are the same thing. Voice, sound instrument to me mean the same thing

Actually, I believe voice refers to a sound channel, not a specific instrument playing in said channel.

For example, the SNES has 8 voices, while the NES normally has 5.

It makes more sense if you think about it. The human voice can produce many different types of sounds in the same way that one of the NES's voices can produce a multitude of different sounds; take the square waves for example. I think that's where the term may have come from.

Well, I appreciate your feedback, honestly I do, but I want this sound, or voice, or whatever you want me to call it!

Before we can help you, we're going to have to know What nsf, what track, what time, which channel.

Well, before it sounds like I'm being mean, I just want to say thank you very much. The sound can be heard in many NES games. Rocketeer, Maniac Mansion, etc. You can hear it better in Rocketeer on track 3 of the NSF on channel 1. It's a 20-30 second song and then it stops.

After listening to it, you could always just F01 it and put the notes in manually.

That might be hard though lmao

You could always use nsf2midi to import it into anvil as well.

I know how many notes it slides down ( 28 ) but I don't know how to do that in the pitch command.

The trick is using 2xx effects. Don't use the release feature in the instrument... you have to program your releases by hand, and you have to fiddle with them until they sound right. Here's an example song

It's not a release, the sound is it's own instrument. Using 2xx doesn't help. You need to use the pitch some way but I don't know how.

Have you tried the arpeggio function in the instrument settings?

Yes. It's too slow, and the pitch can't 'restart' the note. I talked to Dave Warhol. He still has the program but it's on a 5 1/4 disk and he doesn't have a drive for it. He said he doesn't remember anything about the instrument settings.

Seriously...

If only I were able to lend my services; I have a fully-working 1.2 MB 5.25" floppy drive (tested in MS-DOS 3.30 & Windows XP Pro SP3). If only had the disk (I could make a backup of it in DOS or even in XWoaF).

Anyways, I'll see if I can try something to get that effect.

Sorry I forgot to attach my example. It's up there in my earlier post, now.

Is that the effect you are looking for (channel 1)? I'm not sure I understand you. Are you just interested in getting that type of effect, or do you want to get it exactly the same way that Dave Warhol did it?
