I recently downloaded a set of instruments to use with FamiTracker, but whenever I try to open one, it says that the instrument "was not found" despite the fact that it was right inside a folder. I've tried everything I could think of, but nothing has worked. I want to start making songs, but I can't do that without any instruments. Someone please respond...

I hope you meant songs....

And are your instruments in a zip file? You should extract them first.

That was the first thing I did when I got the pack, and it doesn't work.

Well, what version of Famitracker do you have? The instruments might have been made in a different version. Anyway, why don't you just make your own instruments? It's not hard.

Yes; instrument files that were created with FamiTracker 0.3.0 are incompatible with the latest beta's instrument file format (& vice versa).

Currently, the only solution is to run FamiTracker 0.3.5 alongside 0.3.0 (that way, you have the best of both worlds; if a file doesn't work in 0.3.0, you can always open it in 0.3.5).

That fixed it, thanks a lot. The problem was that the instruments were made in version 0.3.5 and I was using 0.3.0. I should be able to work on songs now.

It's actually already documented & well known, thanks to a huge thread on FamiTracker 0.3.5's bugs.

But because you can run both programs alongside each other, you'll definitely be able to read the instrument's settings from FamiTracker 0.3.5 & recreate it on FamiTracker 0.3.0.

If the instrument isn't VRC7 or FDS, that is.
