I just noticed I had 0.3.5 on my computer. And I was going back to 0.3 because it crashes my computer from time to time. The screen goes green, and the music hangs.
Then when I try to open the files I created in 0.3.5, in 0.3, FamiTracker crashes. So now I'm stuck with 0.3.5 for those songs. Damnit!

Oh, I'm running Windows 7 x64.

Same thing happens with me on XP.
To get around it, you can open your file up in the beta, and copy and paste every frame into a blank 3.0 project.

You mean, page by page? That sounds pretty tedious.

Yeah, and not only that, but you have to push the arrow buttons on the 'change frame' a lot... it takes forever if you have a long song

I don't find this bug bad much. If that happens to me in FamiTracker, it's not like it never happens to me any other time. But, it doesn't happen to me. Just try turning down settings to get rid of the hanging and the green screen. The other thing, go with what tadpole suggested.

That sounds very strange, I have no idea why 0.3.5 would crash but not 0.3.0. Especially if the whole computer crashes, sounds like there's a problem with the audio drivers or something. Or do you know if there is any special action that causes the crash?

Try to open sound settings and make sure the primary device is selected.

Sorry, I'll elaborate: The green screen and the music hanging thing never happened to me. But 3.0 crashes when I try to open a 3.5 file.

And 3.5 won't export to nsf without sounding horribly wrong.

Well I don't know if 0.3 is safe, but so far it hasn't crashed.

I also use an external usb sound card, but figured that wouldn't be a problem, since it's set as the primary device, in famitracker.

Then set the FamiTracker sound card to your built-in sound card. I don't know if FamiTracker is compatible with USB period, but if it doesn't wreck you in 0.30, use 0.30 when you want to use the external sound card.

Ah, no I didn't say that was the cause. I'm just mentioning a bug, that I don't know the cause for.

Using USB anything in a program not compatible with your version of USB or USB period could crash your computer. It could even scale to system wipe-out. Just be more careful.

Yeah, there's always a possibility for things like that. But whatever happens, I'll have something to do.

Just, use your internal card. I have to, since I don't have an external, and my computer is crap but I don't crash. I'm guessong that you have a good computer, being that it's rare for someone to have a computer slower than 1.5GH/z now and have a terrible everything else.

Actually famitracker doesn't care if it's USB or not as DirectX is used for audio. The only thing I can imagine causing crashes are bad drivers, maybe for audio or MIDI. I don't understand why it works with older versions though.

tadpole: Ah ok, files saved in the beta version are not compatible with earlier versions. This is a big problem so I've changed the format a little to allow older versions to open the file, as long as no of the new features are used. Newer versions of the tracker will display a message if the file is incompatible.
