Added NES channels don't work when I try them. I stay on the normal instruments.

you probably need to create instruments for the expansions. click one of the expansion channels then hit new instrument. only MMC5 and 2A03 use the same instrument types.

you know, this comes up quite a lot. i'm wondering if it might be sensible to have blank instruments automatically created when you first load famitracker, and first turn on an expansion (ie. your project automatically has 00 - New Instrument when FT is opened, and 01 - New Instrument if you then enable an expansion. you'd only have to make these manually anyway, and it seems to confuse quite a lot of people.)

Yes; the VRC6 expansion chip requires you to create at least one instrument in order for you to enable them.

To do that, place the cursor within one of the 3 channels for the expansion chip & create a new instrument (as normal). That instrument will only be compatible with the expansion chip's 3 channels.

If you're using the beta version of FamiTracker (downloadable from one of the forum threads,) the same steps apply for the FDS & VRC7 expansion chips.

In all cases, you don't need to create any special instruments for MMC5.

You know, exported NSFs use 2A03 instruments on the VRC6 properly. Haven't tested any effects, though.

You have to click on the channel's line.
Example
[---] -- - ---

The [ and ] are the highlighters so you mouse click on where that highlighted portion is, then go to Instrument > New.

Yes but you have to do it on one of the expansion chip's channels or it will think you want to create an instrument on the 2A03.

Altrnatively, you can click the 'white paper' icon below the big box that lists all the instruments created.
