nice one Kizul! ahhh, it's so awesome being able to see VRC6 songs in famitracker. three cheers for jsr!

i quickly did a test song myself - just the ending/looping section from a track on yoshi's island, although it isn't so great. i didn't want to risk doing too much in famitracker due to the heightened risk of brown outs.

Nice going with the duty cycles there, Dave.

Brown outs?

But yeah, if my songs won't work in the next version of FT, no use in putting too much work into any song made using this version.

EDIT: Aaaah, found another bug, possibly related to the release note bug. If, during playback, a VRC6 instrument is muted (by clicking on the channel name on top of the pattern editor) and then unmuted, all while the song is still playing, volume 0 will not be completely silent, although less loud than volume 1. This doesn't seem to happen every time though. Also, the Sawtooth channel will ignore volume envelopes if set to any duty cycle other than 0.

Dafydd: positive — I just tried to; I also apparently deleted my backups, so I'm going to have to remake them. Shouldn't be TOO difficult, I guess. I mean, I still remember basically how I'd had them; the hardest part will be getting the timing/tempo right. :p

Will do, though. I don't intend to just keep them to myself — that would be highly inconsiderate.

In the meantime, I whipped up a 100% completed version of my Bike Race cover, including better-sounding DPCM samples! :D

Unrelated, I found another bug that I forgot to report a couple of days ago: you can't parse anything when you try to input MML for VRC6 instruments. [Sad] If you try to hit the Enter key, the whole window goes flat (all the options disappear; it's basically just a popup window with a close button, tab labeled "VRC6", and keyboard at the bottom), and hitting the 'Parse' button does nothing. <.<

Edit: P.S.: Dafydd, I think you got it backwards — songs made with this version should work with the next version, they just won't work with any versions EARLIER than this one. FT's backwards-compatibility is a one-way street: anything made with an old version will work with a new one, but nothing made with a new one will work with an old one. ¯\(º_O)/¯

Ooooh. Ok. Thanks for clearing that up. A lot of programs don't work that way though (games that don't let you use your old savegames after patching and that kind of thing).

Sweden, we have a problem… Posted: 2008-09-19 07:01  (Last Edited: 2008-09-19 20:47) Reply | Quote

I was noodling around a bit with VRC7 instruments earlier, then decided to close FT out and do something else. When I reopen FT and try to reload the file I was working with (attached), FamiTracker just crashes silently — no warnings, no errors, it just closes itself out. >.>

Hopefully this can be fixed!

Kizul: I didn't mention it, but saving and loading for VRC7 does not yet work as the instruments are different from VRC6. VRC7 won't be included in the next full version either, I'm only using it to test things under development right now. But I will add it to the version after that.

Ah, okay — thanks for telling me that. :D At least VRC6 works — mostly! \^^/

Can each wip be given its own version number? Right now, I'm pretty sure I have several different 2.8.0 (WIP) on my computer, and it'd be nice to be able to tell them apart. Nothing to do about the old ones, but something to consider for future wip releases.

Maybe jsr could run a script that increments a build number every time he compiles the code?

WIP is updated, and a WIP version number is added. Still no VRC6 in NSF but it's moving forward.
