Have you tried turning the latency up/down?

A few things you could try:

If you do not have the latest version of famitracker (0.4.6), then dowload it and see if it's faster.

Check the buffer length setting (file > configuration > sound). If it's to short, then everything will run slower. If it's to long, you will get a lower frame rate.
While you're there, if it still runs slowly, try to lower the sample rate and sample size, and see if that works.

If that still doesn't work, the problem might be deeper than famitrackers own settings. If you have a soundcard that is not built into the motherboard of your computer (internal or external, it doesn't really matter), go to control panel > harware and audio > audio, and check so that you're using it as your main audio device.

If that still doesn't work, you're probably going to have to fiddle around with the drivers on your computer.

I hope i helped you!

Odd ... I have Windows 8.1 on a 1GHz (dual core) notebook and FT has never lagged for me (both v0.4.2 and 0.4.6) unless I'm multitasking.

1 GHz dual core is very slow... That slow processors haven't been in new windows computers cince more than 6 years ago. I have a 2.67 GHz dual core, and my computer is 3,5 years old and costed me 500 bucks... I think it would be a good idea to either get a new computer or reinstall the operating system that you used before you upgraded to windows 8. If you decide to buy a new computer, even the cheapest windows computers can handle famitracker with no lag. Heck, I have a computer-tablet-combo with an intel atom processor that can handle famitracker with no lag what so ever, even when multitasking.

Just make sure you don't get a mac or a cromebook, because famitracker isn't compatible with them.

I have Windows 8 on a single core 1.7 GhZ PC and a WinXP with 1.3GhZ (from 2002), it works just fine.

Au contraire: Mine is an HP Pavilion TouchSmart notebook (model # 10-e010nr), which released October 2013 and I got it for roughly $300. Its CPU is 64-bit, Windows 8.1 was preinstalled, the touchscreen recognizes up to 8 simultaneous points, and most importantly, FamiTracker runs just fine on it with no lag.

Well, I might have overstated a little bit, but my point was that he probably has an old computer, and his best bet might be to get a new one.

Because famitracker (from what i know) doesn't utilize multiple cores, one core clocked at 1.3 or 1.7 GHz can handle the program better that two cores clocked at 1.0 GHz.

And another thing I wanted to say is that famitracker runs better on my tablet-computer-combo-thing than my notebook, even though the notebook is faster. Both the processor and the graphics card are faster, and it has more RAM. Maybe the soundcard is better on the tablet-computer-combo-thing than on my notebook because it's 2 years "younger"? It might mean that the soundcard is giving up on SkipperThePeng's computer.
