The first one, Time Ticking Backwards, was a Wildchip OHC (e.g. anything goes as long as it's remotely chiptune-related) with a very simple theme: create the soundtrack for a strange situation. I entered an MMC5 NSF, and ended up scoring a perfect 35.000 (the highest score possible at Battle of the Bits). The arps in the second portion of the track are very heavily influenced by Fearofdark.
The other one, Ships By Air Mail Within 30 Days, was an NSF+ OHC (i.e. NSF with expansions). The idea was to compose a theme for a flying mailman (hence the bizarre title, which should probably have been "Ships By Air Mail Within 1 Hour" - kinda dropped the ball on that one). This was chronologically the first of these OHCs, and I entered it without telling anybody. Imagine everyone's surprise when not only my name came up in the results (keep in mind it had been 10 months since my last appearance on BotB), but I won the battle by a solid one and a half points. Then people requested the FTM, perhaps not noticing that the NSF file utilised not one but two expansions. Indeed, I had used ppMCK to make my entry. It's only a mere twenty-something seconds, but apparently people were wowed enough by it to upvote it.
EDIT: Bonus #2! I also rewrote one of my opponent's entry from that flying mailman OHC: Special Air Delivery, by our very own moviemovies1! The original entry used the MMC5 expansion, but upon hearing it I instantly thought "this would sound better with a cheesy 80's synth sound on top of it". So inbetween those two OHCs, I made a VRC7 cover of it.
Hahahah, that flying mailman must be really cool to have a song like that. The song reminds me a bit of Show me a Moose, it's really good! I try to imagine how this flying mailman would be, along with the song, and I can't stop laughing.
[Perhaps he has a super-powerful jetpack and a mailbag of sorts, flying at high speeds and dropping the mail outside your house]
The bonus rewrite is good too, and the Time Ticking Backwards song successfully delivers that awkward feeling. Again, good job!

Amazing, but too slow for time ticking backwards. My ADHD made it impossible to sit through it. At about frame 04 I was like fuck it I can't control my ADHD any longer (stupid Adderal doesn't work). Also it made me really hungry.

I'm not really sure how the music relates to the theme at all myself, to be honest. :p

Thank you. Yeah I was going for a slightly creepy/uneasy feel in that one; I think I managed quite well. There's definitely some David Wise in that first bit, too (think DK64 Frantic Factory).

It's purely a matter of personal preference. I like the cleaner look it gives my posts, plus I dislike the forum's attachement system to boot. And don't worry about these links going 404 anytime soon - they're 2a03.free.fr links. That's where I put the stuff I want to keep online as long as possible.

I know I've told you this already, but I definitely encourage you to give it a go sometime. You don't have to be pro to enter an OHC - it's just a fun experience overall, even if you don't remotely close to getting gold. It helps you get better, it conditions you to be concise and efficient in your composing/tracking process and it makes you generally better at working with the sound chips (and software) you use. Also it coaxes you into writing originals instead of covers, which is a huge plus as far as I'm concerned!

Thank you for commenting! To answer your question, I haven't tested this NSF on hardware (yet), but I'm pretty much banking on the fact that the ADSR envelope for that instrument is far enough into the decay part that using F won't cause it to distort. If in the end I test it on my Lagrange Point cart and it does turn out to cause distortion, I'll make a fixed version with improved mixing.
