I did this from a MIDI ripped straight from the ROM... Why does it sound so awful?

MIDI import is broken and should not be used.

Nah, I don't mean I imported a MIDI. That'd be horrible and lazy of me. I mean I exported a MIDI from the ROM and loaded it into FL Studio, then transcribed it.

Oh, well then. How did you get a MIDI from a ROM?

There are several programs depending on what system you wanna rip from. VGMTrans for NDS games, the aptly-named N64MidiTool for N64 games, GBAMusRipper for the obvious... That's all I've found/used, but I'm sure there's more. Quite a handy lot of tools.

Skip ahead to song #2. this probably was worthy of a thread, but I decided against it.

started covering this as an experiment in sound design techniques for the most part

it's a lot of work and i'm not really all that excited about it anymore so idk if i'll finish it

But that's exactly what I mean. I happen to enjoy FiW but I'm not fond of the actual show or the vocal majority of its fandom, really...

(also i made it loop)
