danooct1 wasn't being pedantic at all; he did read your posts properly. You just didn't explain yourself properly, Naff_Natty.

So far, danooct1's been hammering every nail straight on their heads; it ultimately doesn't matter how you make your music, so long as you try to learn all the ins & outs of your chosen instrument(s). It's the exact same point rainwarrior made earlier; who cares about the opinion of one person who thinks that every minute detail about a hobby ultimately matters? Just learn how to use the instrument you've chosen & perfect it. The more you know in terms of the NES' technical limitations, the more you know how to take advantage of them; take this as an opportunity to learn about the NES the same way you'd learn about any other musical instrument. Otherwise, stick with what you know & perfect that instead.

That's the whole point I'm sure you're trying to make, too.

As for the black-&-white "My music's REAL chip music & your music's not" attitude, it exists because some people think it's all about competing with each other. It doesn't exist because of, for example, the fact that FamiTracker & FL Studio are different in the way they work; red M&M, green M&M, they all end up the same color in the end. What makes it matter is that people are always trying to compete in terms of their skills. Take this as an opportunity, too; increase your skills by learning more about your instrument (the NES' sound chips).

As for nicetas_c, he's just trolling you (& by the looks of it, it worked pretty damned well).

it's not genuine. chipmusic is a silly medium to choose for reggae and it's even more silly to think learning technical this and that won't help it any. your sound design is too harsh.

also you're demanding respect from us in this awkward show of intellect or something, i don't get it. what's up man?! just chill

Pedantic?, dude you are awesome. And yeah, sure, and your avatar is very small, then that is the size of your musician capabilities.

Nah, I'm just rattling a few sabres to get the topic talked about - and I'm learning a lot as I go along. I hope no one's too offended by anything - I'm doing it all in good humour. I'm not offended by anything anyone's saying, just rising to stuff to play devil's advocate a bit. Rest assured I'm learning a lot just from this - competing in argument can be as good as anything for learning!

Delek, that comment's just mean. It should be "musical capabilites". Learn English properly before you try to insult someone in it. Also, if you're so great why don't you show me something, instead of being an unfriendly person?

Actually, I think you've rustled more jimmies than is acceptable here, man. And especially since it's very easy to interpret this as trying to argue with danooct1 (who's clearly right,) nicetas_c (who's clearly trolling) & Delek (who's clearly pointing out your foolishness,) it only makes you look sillier than you already are by claiming that you're doing this to get a "logical" conversation.

Natty, this is a non-issue

This holds true, it's really not an issue. I understand maybe you're curious about some of the stupid quirks of chip community bullshit, but it really doesn't matter here. People come here to discuss and learn about how to get certain sounds out the NES, it's as simple as that. Of course the journey is learning about how it works on a technical level, and that well is as deep as you make it.

And you are coming off as offensive and this whole thread is meaningless, honestly. Just keep making music.

I'm just glad that there are still people out there who make fakebit so we can gloat about how much better we are for making REAL chip music.

Joking aside, I use the term "chip music" loosely. Some of my favorite chip music is fakebit. I do appreciate true chip tune for many reasons, but the most important thing is how good the music sounds. And I think reggae chiptune is sweet and there needs to be more of it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wLuMbDLDDdE

TLDR - I completely agree with rainwarrior. And guys, stop insulting eachother please.

Also your avatar is a UFO sending a beam signal so I bet you're going to kidnap all of the most talented musicians here and connect them to alien anal probing machines, requesting a ban on this nefarious hacker.

If you feel your music is true to chip music despite the fact that you use VST to make it, then why should you care if people argue against that? Taking negative things people say blindly towards something is a waste of time and you would be a fool to acknowledge them. However, if they say something negative with some constructive thoughts, you should take the good from it and ignore the bad. It's as simple as that.
