Alright, guys. radel999's from North-Eastern Europe, so I wouldn't expect his English to be perfect (I'm guessing by his profile that he's from Poland). It sure beats the English of some native English speakers, though.

Anyways, I gather from his post that he's creating a free game, where he's not making any profit from it.

radel999: will other people have access to your programming source code? Or will your source code be available only to the programmers & music composers?

So, if other people will have access to your source code, but you're paying the music composer with your source code, that means you're still not paying them anything.

I guess that, in your case, giving credit to the composer should be enough.

Which goes back to jrlepage's original question:

jrlepage wrote:
What's in it for the composer(s), other than their name being mentioned somewhere nobody will bother to read?

Normally, when you ask for any kind of help that requires work, the workers expect some form of payment. Something that means more than their name written in a program's credit. Even if it isn't money, but something that's worth their work.

For example, you want to create a free game, where everyone has access to the source code. So, paying the composer with the same source code that everyone has access to isn't really payment. It's not real payment because it's nothing special to the composer when other people get the same thing.

Now, in your case, giving the composer a special privilege would be payment.

For example, if I made a free game & needed jrlepage to make the music, I'd give him credit & give him a small part of my website that he can use for his own purpose.

And trust me; it's rare to find someone who wants to work without some kind of payment, but I'm I know that such people are around.

So you mean to say that all that you would be able to offer as payment is source code & credits. If you do not give the source code to the public, then that is a good payment. If the public is able to get the source code for free, this is not payment.

Will the source code be given to the public, or only to the composer?

what is so difficult to grasp techemporium

if you write music for this game, your name goes in the credits. nothing more, nothing less. it's not difficult to grasp this concept.

not every game requires every person involved to be paid, especially since he is releasing it as freeware. if this idea doesn't thrill you, then don't offer to write music for it and stop posting in the goddamn thread.

I might be willing to lend a helping hand, I would like to see some proof of development first though. Do you think you could PM me some details about your project and some proof of development?
