I don't really want to take a billion requests right now, sorry. I promise I will eventually get it into a releasable state and let you use it yourself. Right now it's fragile, inconvenient, and only really usable by a programmer. You may have to wait a few weeks for it.

Wow, that's excellent news indeed! I look forward to that. jsr, does the idea of a plugin DLL sound good to you?
Are you in a position to give us any sort of ETA for this? And is it gonna be in the form of an external application or are you gonna go with some sort of plugin DLL as mentioned earlier?
Lastly, I sort of know how you must feel about doing VRC7 support, and I know there was only ever one original VRC7 soundtrack, but... I know I'd love to have a look at that soundtrack in FTM mode. Only if you feel like doing it though, no pressure.
I will try not to take more than a month. Probably less. Haven't decided how I would want to release it; a plugin DLL would be ideal, but this will require an update to FamiTracker itself to have a plugin system. I'm going to try to write one, but when it's finished it will require approval by and work by jsr to integrate into a later release, etc.
Depending on how that goes, maybe I could hack it down into a closed-source command line application for the meanwhile.
Anyhow, there's still lots to do before I'd consider releasing it in any form.
Less than a month is much sooner than I expected. Awesome! ^^
Now I know nothing about that sort of stuff, but does the licence FT is released under allow people to add plugins to FT without the author's consent? I sort of assumed it was okay to modify the program at will so long as you distributed the source along with your modified program, but I'm curious to know for sure...
What; you mean the GNU GPL? It allows any form of modification as long as the original source remains available & due credit is given to the original author. No consent necessary as the license itself provides it.
You don't necessarily have to distribute a compiled binary either; the only thing that's absolutely needed in open-source software distribution is the source code & instructions on compiling the software (pre-compiled binaries are more of a courtesy for ordinary computer users with no IDE software/experience in programming).

It's GPL, so I can modify it and redistribute it legally all I want, I suppose, so long as it remains open source and non-commercial.
However, I don't want to release some weird fork of FamiTracker; I'd rather people keep using the main branch. Plugins would obviate this issue considerably.
A fork of FamiTracker... Wow; when you say you don't want to create a weird fork of FamiTracker, I just imagine all the dead projects created since 1999 that are rotting away on SourceForge. (Kidding.) :P
Luckily, all open-source licenses allow for collaboration in any/every respect, so why not consult with JSR? Anything can be possible with software, given the man-power & skillsets of each programmer.
