This might sound like a simple thing, but I have worked for about an hour without getting a decent result.
I want to make a wolf howl sound effect for the game I am making, but no matter what I've tried, the sound just turn out to mechanic.
Anyone got any ideas on how to create the effect I want? It should be a threatening howl sound. The wolf pauses and howls towards the sky for a few seconds, so the effect doesn't have to be very long.
Thanks for the advice. Where can I download famitracker 0.3.5 beta? I don't seem to be able to play the attached ftm either.
I could use a dpcm sample, but since I don't own the copyright of any wolf howling sounds it would deviate a bit from the concept of creating the entire game on my own. Of course noone would really care if I stole a random wav on the web, especially since the act of converting it to a dpcm samlple would probably alter it significally, but I've yet to decide if I should do it that way.
Edit: I just saw that there was a thread to download the beta here in general talk. I will check it out right away
That was a nice effect, tadpole, but I am leaning towards solving the problem with a dpcm sample instead - it just seems more convenient. The problem I have now is that my sample is cut before it ends, meaning I don't get a full howl (it only plays for about 2 seconds). This has never been a problem before, because I only used dpcm for drum effects (which generally are short).
Is this a built in limitation in FT, or am I doing something wrong?
It's possible to use two high-quality samples and simply have the second one play right when (or right before) the first one ends. Depending on the samples and the timing, it should be possible to make it fairly seamless.
That's also a good suggestion; use an audio file editor to split a WAv file into separate chunks & import them all into FamiTracker (one by one) with high-quality.
