I saw nothing wrong with snares. Perhaps if you don't use DPCM for other means than percussion, you can put a snare sample along with noise so it sounds better.

I meant that the snare sounds kind of empty. Try either doubling it with DPCM drums or making an arp-style snare.
and by the way, Vxx will change your square waveform, provided you haven't defined your duty in the Instruments...
