I'm sure this has probably been done before, but here is a cover I made of Take Up the Cross, Tales of Phantasia's regular battle theme, and one of my all-time favorite Motoi Sakuraba songs.

Some Sunsoft instruments were used in this. It may still need a few more adjustments (like I probably could have used better DPCM samples.) But overall, I think it's good, and worth showing here.

And don't ask why all the instruments aren't named, it's something I like to call "laziness."

Also (I forgot to say this in my last thread,) thanks to danooct1 for his nice Famitracker tutorial on YouTube.

Sounds pretty cool, actually. You know how to use alternating Fxx effects, right?

Nope, but I may look into it someday.

Instead of typing the tempo directly into the tempo box, one may alternate Fxx effects to alter the speed. F06 achieves 150 BPM, F05 then F06 then F05 then F06 achieves about 163 BPM. This is a bit more tedious but allows better control for more seasoned users. Though honestly, if you don't use many effects which rely on speed (ie, delay, delayed note cut, tremolo, uncontrolled pitch bend, etc), then you don't really need to use alternating Fxx effects.

Fxx is used to change tempo. You can actually slow down a song with Fxx effects. This alternating Fxx is really just going fast then slow, giving the impression of a medium speed.

That's okay. As long as you know what each instrument does, this isn't much of a problem.

The song is very good. Better than what I did until I joined this place(I was seriously bad at tracking). So, without having a glance at the instruments, I can notice they were to replace the effects, since I could tell you aren't familiar with them yet, right? That's fine. It took me a lot to learn what every effect does, and even now I don't know them all(Wxx for example, which you gave a very good use!). Still, having said this, instruments are a very accurate way to emulate anything you need, so don't hesitate to use them.

I can't take the song out of my mind now, so I'm going to say that I envy your rookie skills. I never used DPCM until I made a cover in which I wanted to know how it would be, and now I use it in every track I make. Congratulations for such good samples(and good use of them and Wxx effect!)

About Fxx, you can use the tempo box for now. The effect will help you with major tracks which either go pretty fast or use speed-relying effects, as poodlecock said. It is hard to get used to it, but it really is useful. You can e.g. make swing with it, but needs lots of practice and knowledge about how most important things work.

Noise channel can be used to power up DPCM. Try to experiment with it next time you make a cover or any stuff. If it turns out well, keep going with it, but if it messes up, just leave it for later.

There are lots of effects and techniques you can apply to your songs, for example duty cycle changes on Pulse channels. I'm saying this since I didn't notice any in your song, but doesn't matter, it still sounds good. Also, more volume control(make everything flow together so nothing stands over the rest) would be good in your future tracks. Pitch bends are also pretty cool, and can really define whether a track is really good or plain awesome.

I suggest you go, open FT, and doodle around with every effect until you get how they work. Beware with Axy though, since it is either A0x or Ax0. They have different uses. Well, after you doodle around and get how they work, make a song(good or stupid, you choose), use some of the effects, listen to it over and over again, tweak them, listen to it again, and so on, and you will surely have improved your skills. Go slowly though, since all at once can twist your mind.
Laziness...
Don't let this swallow you. You are doing pretty well up to now. If you leave it aside, you'll be great. If you can beat it, you'll be awesome. If you can take it out of your life, you'll have beaten the entire human race. Remember these words. They might come in handy.

This sounds really cool! Except the instrument 03 is weak and doesn't feel like it distinguishes the notes very well when played quickly (such as frame 0. (Upon further inspection, it might be because it's overshadowed by the sawtooth that's playing more complex and loudly in the same part of the frequency spectrum? So it may be a mixing issue not a timbre issue.) Other than that it's great and heart pumping.

Yeah, it's kinda both. Try changing pulse width to 1 and putting the volume higher.

I tweaked it a bit more.

-Part 1 I tweaked the volume so you could hear both pieces nicely.
-Part 2 had too much reverb so I dropped it from 8 to 6. I also made it P81 for the reverb so it would phase instead of get phase-locked.

Wait wait wait stop just wait a minute stop right there criminal scum.
I played with the .ftm a bit.
Really? REALLY? Huh, that's odd, cause that sounds a lot like what Raijin did. Back in 2011 oh wait look at the info there in the box it says RAIJIN 2011. OH HEY WHAT DO YOU KNOW.

It saddens me that nobody else seems to have noticed this, or cared enough to point this out.

I mean, seriously. Played with the .ftm a bit? By changing its expansion chip, changing all the instruments and how all the channels are laid out? Really? Oh that's cool. That's totally believable. Yeah. Sure.

Uh huh.

Right.

I was just about to comment on that too. I don't think changing the expansion chip, or let alone redoing the song entirely counts as "playing with the .FTM a bit" and the author and copyright notes gave it away entirely as well.

Lol. I can't believe it either. I would not have noticed for a while if it weren't for that. I need to watch for that more often.

I am particularly useless when it comes to detect a stolen file, so I wouldn't have been able to do so. Maybe it's because I'm relatively new and I haven't taken the time to browse for older threads.
