As my first post I'm sharing a FTM that has some well simple instruments for new users to experiment with. (also with Bass DPCM and a DPCM glitch you can abuse [probably])

And Also a mock up Level FTM called Escape from Space Prison with two songs. (Comes with a MP3 (Because WMVs are huge) of the first song so you can sample it)

(WARNING CRITICISM)

I'm not really sure what your intentions are with the first song (DIY) the instruments are all right, but I don't see a purpose for half of them, also for future reference if you want to show off instruments they go in this thread - http://famitracker.com/forum/posts.php?id=1032
The songs for DIY are (for lack of a better word) Hideous to me, the first one is really hard for me to swallow, the harmonies are really poor and it feels like no effort was put into it at all, a few are lacking solid melodies or just don't really have a purpose whatsoever.

You're other FTM (Escape) It's alright at best, on the first song, I get what you were trying to do with the 2A03 square channel, and the samples are OK, albeit a little muddy, the rest is just drowned out by the melody which is also very lacking, the other song is better, but I can't hear most of the channels again because they are drowned out by the VRC6 squares.

I would highly recommend you work on your volume control and mixing, work on fleshing out a melody, instead of strumming for a frame doing some half steps and then strumming again, and finally don't get discouraged and keep at it!

Turns out that my volume mixer had Famitracker half of what's suppose to be (And that's embarrassing.)

I guess I'll toss some more FTMs for you guys's opinions (and please don't hold back criticisms and nitpicks I do appreciate any ideas to improve my famitunes)

So I'm gonna throw Five more here into the mix and make this a place to show off.
Succubus Feast is a tense piece that all upbeat and I attempted to sound evil.

Sneaky is a slow pace based on old stealth games.

Rover Revolts is actually a really old piece back when the only DPCM I had was a Sonic 3 Drum Base but I think it sounds pretty good to me.

Aunn Theme was a theme for a comic that never finished and was scrapped, so here's a song that represents that feeling.

ElMaskoopa is a Theme for a good buddy of mine's character, Also a bit old, but I think you guys will like it.

I've only registered today and I've only been using Famitracker for about 7 weeks, but I'll take a swing at criticizing your stuff.

The songs in your second post all sound to me like they're interludes for other songs (If that makes any sense). Succubus Feast sounds like it's going to ramp up at any moment, but it just rambles on. That being said, I feel like it's your most polished piece.

ElMaskoopa sounds very random.

The DCPM in rover/aunn/sneaky sound very muddy. Maybe you should try using the Triangle channel for percussion. That might help both with the volume mixing and clarity of the sound in your stuff.

I agree with everything Doxic says, as well.

I think your style has potential, and I really don't mean to sound condescending here, but if you worked on fleshing out the sound of your songs to sound more full and encompassing with volume mixing and better leads then I'd love to hear it. Otherwise right now it's just sort of boring.

Taking what you and Doxic said, I created a brand new tune, considering it either myself uprising or waltzing to my doom.

I put a lot of thinking into making this sound distinct, hopefully this song shows improvement from my other songs.

If not perhaps I should look into more simpler pieces.

Hey Rover, I honestly think that this is your best piece so far, the dissonance is really subtle and works well in this,The synth DPCM is quite nice as well, the noise and triangle are very nice IMO, but the Pulse one gets a little repetitive, that's just me though, I see what you are trying to do with it however and I think it is OK in this piece, your VRC6 pulses are too loud, if you can make them swell, by maybe playing with a Axx command (not TOO loud though!) it can make it more dynamic, also, you might consider doing some echos on those pulses as well!

Great job, and great improvements, I very much enjoyed this!

Edit, I did a quick edit on the VRC6Pulses to show you what I mean.

Thank you, while I did find the echo nice but at times but it was cut off short due to how I designed the pattern.

I soften up the VRC6Pulses for you, as well as edit a few small nitpicks I had with it listening to it a few times.

Should loop smoothly too.

Sounds better, but I still say you need to work on the volume control and mixing, but don't fret, I'm slowly getting the feel for your style, and it's growing on me. Another thought is have you considered making the speed faster? Try listening to it at Speed 5 or something, it makes the song feel... more alive.

This is such a weird song and I love that it is so weird (to me). Man. I was pretty surprised by the DCPM usage, kudos on that.

Keep it up Rover.
