Howdy, I'm new, and instead of making a pointless topic introducing myself, I'd rather get right to the point.
I've been doodling around on FamiTracker, and I keep getting hit with the same problem (it isn't a technical problem).
How should I accompany the melody/bassline?
I generally make faster drum n' bass type of music on this program with somewhat-enticing and upbeat melodies, but my songs fall short in accompanyment. I'm curious as to whether or not anyone here would have any ideas for filling the void. Thanks.
*I noticed my headline is a slight "The Wall" innuendo.
Well, it's pretty much the same as "real" music...chords or counterpoint. You can simulate chords with arpeggios, or you can have real chords by adding expansion channels.
I guess if you're working with drum n bass music, you might want to explore things like pulse-width modulation via the N163/VRC6 expansions, or play around with sonic textures in VRC7. Or you might wanna keep it simple...there's a tendency of Famitracker composers to fill in the gaps as much as possible, but there's nothing wrong with a minimalistic approach, if you can still maintain a level of engagement with the listener.
